How to balance a real time strategy game. There are basically four approaches. The first is to have both sides be identical, except perhaps for their starting areas. This was used in Command HQ and the original Warcraft. Obviously, the two sides are "balanced" in such a situation. These derived from turn-based wargames such as Empire and Civilization. (Anyone else remember Empire?) For obvious reasons, if the two sides are identical, the game is balanced. Of course, if their home areas aren't the same, then you'll need to adapt to circumstances. If you're playing Warcraft and an ocean encroaches more on your base than the enemy's, you'll want to build ships earlier to expand. This may lead at some point for your civilization to be more ship-focused, while he has better land units. But it's all dynamic. 1/4

@AndyZou @SandyofCthulhu The would be, I suppose, that you would polarize your audience with this kind of choice, as some players want the climb to mastery just once, and others are ok repeating the climb ad infinitum.

@dirtydeathdog If only hardline had bots like 2042 and bf6. I’d still be playing it. I loved that game so much.

learning moment for me - In BFH I made 8 game modes at launch. Eight. In retrospect this was a bit of a mistake. While I loved working on each of the modes and thought they each brought something, some of them got low playtime. Rescue and crosshair were <1%.

@dirtydeathdog That was how we found and grew clans of gamers, I played BFBC2, BF3 with SOC Soldiers of Chaos, was some of the most fun I have ever had gaming and making friends. Sad younger gamers can't have that too.

@dirtydeathdog Tried BF6 on a free weekend. Was ok for a couple of days. Soon got bored though. BF4 was so much better. So was Hardline to be honest. BF6 just isn't fun.
