Marshals Athletics and the Marshall County Athletics Foundation will be releasing the 2026 Marshall County Athletics Hall of Fame Inductees over the next week. Our first inductee is Gus Gillespie. Coach Gillespie served as head coach of the Marshals basketball program for 13 seasons. During this tenure, the Marshals were 293-119, averaging almost 23 wins per season. In addition to winning eight district championships, He led the Marshals to five trips to the regional championship game, winning the region in 2011 and 2012. The 2011 team advanced to the quarterfinal round of the state tournament. The next season, 2012, the team set the Marshals program record for most wins in a season with 32. Coach Gillespie was voted Purchase Coach of the Year 3 times, which is tied for second most in Boys Region 1 History. His 293 victories as a Region 1 coach is 14th on the all-time wins list for Boys Region 1 Coaches during their times as coaches in Region 1. (That just includes wins as a Region 1 coach).

As an organization, you have to either develop young talent or pay for proven talent. Development has proven to be poor recently and we refuse to pay top dollar for top dollar talent. The season is going exactly how I expected it to. We made no impactful changes outside of Sonny.

𝙎𝙄𝙂𝙉𝙀𝘿 🦅✍️ Lukas Pigg from Graves County HS has officially signed his LOI to join the Falcons. At Graves County High School, Pigg was a part of the 1000 point club and the 250 assist club and was named to the District All-Tournament Team three times and the All-Purchase Team twice. Senior, Lukas Pigg signs with Southeastern Illinois College to further his basketball career. As a Falcon, Lukas will also further his education by working towards a degree in Education. Lukas hopes to teach Physical Education along with pursuing his dream of coaching.

He cares about the program and the fanbase. We’ll see how it plays out, but watching the press conf. was a breathe of fresh air.

Pope seems like a great guy and very energetic. Just surprising that UK “settled” for someone without a tournament win
