The fact that Drake has real life music execs being groupies for him will forever crack me up. I’ve watched 30+ y/o men knock girls over to try and dap him up.
@ElanaNYC1@latrey69@TheCompanyMan And there are many opportunities I lose as a dj to other women of color for black history month events, essence fest, bet, afro tech, etc. And I don’t really feel a way. I understand and play my part.
My dad grew up in abject poverty in brooklyn, much like millions of other descendants of the enslaved.
He's the first male in the family not to go to jail.
When he was in middle school, he heard about a new thing called affirmative action and it changed his view on what was possible with his life.
It made him MORE focused on education as an opportunity for him to break the cycle.
Long story short, he got his engineering degree from Northeastern and his MBA from Rutgers.
His two nieces followed his path and got degrees from Texas and Columbia.
I followed his path, too.
Because he heard about Affirmative Action, my father was able to break a multigenerational curse...
Which is exactly what the policy was designed for....
Which is exactly why the Supreme Court ended it.
@ElanaNYC1@latrey69@TheCompanyMan I still think it would be best for it to have been separated because men never understand what feminism actually is. Women’s empowerment does not discriminate.
@ElanaNYC1@latrey69@TheCompanyMan So I really don’t see an issue with white women being under AA, as they clearly should as a historically oppressed minority group. Slaves owners owned their white wives too. They couldn’t work, vote, go to certain schools or have a bank account.
@ElanaNYC1@latrey69@TheCompanyMan Two completely separate traumatic experiences in America that often overlap, like this AA thing . And people don’t realize by giving certain women such a bad rap because of skin color, that’s misogynistic behavior being exhibited. And yes, even for us.
@ElanaNYC1@latrey69@TheCompanyMan We should’ve had our own action plan as women because it’s too messy and our needs are intersectional so it creates a social issue, making people forget what women, even the white ones have been through in a misogynistic society.
@latrey69@TheCompanyMan No I’m stating that the other 11% of white women do not want to be associated, which is why I posted my original comment and stand on it because you made a broad generalization about us so I’m saying something.
@djrootsqueen@TheCompanyMan So your rebuttal of my comment is based off of your personal narrative, and not the national trend. That level of individualism is the epitome of white privilege.
@latrey69@TheCompanyMan That most women are part of white families and married to white men. That’s a broad generalization that does not apply to me in any way. I’ve never worked in corporate America, so I wouldn’t know much about AA concerning women. I’ve never even been hired
@djrootsqueen@TheCompanyMan LBJ stated that AA was meant for advancing descendants for slavery, also white women are apart of white families and mostly married to white men. Everyone gets benefited on the backs of black folks over and over again.
@latrey69@TheCompanyMan Broad generalization about us, as in those categories do not apply to me, so I’ll have to research that more. I’ve never felt that AA applied to women only, so I never paid that much attention to it. We should’ve had our own thing, in my opinion.
