Darby Allin is the modern-day Mick Foley of the Attitude Era. You can deny it all you want, but it’s true. Mick Foley was hardcore—just like Darby Allin is today. Some would even say Darby is crazier than Foley ever was. Their title wins were parallel: both completely unexpected and both against one of the top talents of their era. Mick Foley defeated The Rock for the WWF World Championship in 1998, and Darby Allin defeated MJF for the AEW World Championship. I’m sure plenty of WCW fans back then mocked WWF for putting the World Title on a guy like Foley—and even some WWF fans did too. Darby is getting that exact same treatment right now from WWE fans and even some AEW fans. Vince McMahon took the risk and put the WWF Title on Foley. Tony Khan did the same with Darby. Both risks paid off in their own ways—and Darby’s is still paying off today. So go ahead: make fun of him, hate on him, and criticize all you want… but you can’t argue the fact that Darby Allin is our modern-day Mick Foley.
