Amy Ross, NASA spacesuit engineer: "a spacesuit is basically a personal spacecraft." this free 27-second short holds the entire "spacesuits are just fancy uniforms" idea, from a creator who explains why the color of the suit is a life-or-death engineering choice. at the board it's simple. white is for spacewalks — it reflects sunlight so the astronaut doesn't cook in vacuum. orange is for launch and reentry — the brightest color the human eye can spot against ocean or forest if a crew has to eject. neither is aesthetic. both are survival. that's the whole "it's just a suit," minus the marketing. same point as my cosmic scale piece above: in space, every detail is a decision paid for in someone's life. what nobody can sell you is the habit of noticing that the smallest design choice — a color, a stitch, a seal — is what stands between a human and the void. that habit is the whole respect, and no lecture can install it in you.
