In some cases, women reported that if militants desired a married woman, they would kill her husband to forcefully assert control over her.

Deeply concerning that the killings and displacement of Kashmiri Hindus have not received the same level of sustained investigation, accountability, and human rights attention as some other tragedies in India’s history. For example, the 1984 anti-Sikh violence led to multiple inquiries and ongoing legal proceedings against accused individuals. In comparison, I feel that justice for the victims of violence against Kashmiri Hindus remains incomplete, with questions about thorough investigations and accountability still unanswered. Why has there not been the same level of focus, legal follow-through, or human rights action in these cases? All victims of violence deserve equal justice, dignity, and closure—regardless of their community.

In that moment, the king understood—this was no ordinary being. With folded hands and a heart full of devotion, he bowed. The fish revealed its true form—Sri Vishnu as Matsya, the divine protector. Prabhu warned Satyavrata of an impending cosmic flood that would dissolve all creation. He instructed the king to build a mighty boat, gather the seeds of all life, bring along the seven great Rishis and preserve the sacred Vedas.
