@PastorSoul The first pastor I served with called pastoral work "the art of managing momentum." You'd build it up on Sunday, lose it through the week, and need to build it back up through events and other activities until next Sunday. I was exhausted.

At some point, the "they're really nice people who got it wrong" argument just doesn't stand anymore. If you repeatedly cause harm, you're not "really nice people". I don't care what your ministry title is. I care how you treat people. All people. Not just those you agree with

@richvillodas @richvillodas - feels like number 8 drove all the others. @petescazzero is different and intentional. I know there are (a few) other stories of healthy leader transitions- this one feels unique. I pray God’s continued blessing upon your lives, calling and ministry.

7) Since Pete was remaining on staff, we had an extremely clear job description created for him, with regular Elder check-ins. 8) Pete’s humility and high level of self-awareness (along with prayerful, wise elders) made this a beautiful transition.

8 reasons why our lead pastor transition went well: 1) It was a slow, 4-year thoughtful process. We brought in outside help to help us get clear about lines of authority as @petescazzero’s role shifted.
