There’s a kind of grief no one really talks about …the grief that comes after all the paperwork is signed, the accounts are closed, titles transferred and there’s nothing left to “do.”
For so many months, handling my dad’s affairs gave me a purpose. It was my final act of love for him. Every phone call, every document, every obstacle I faced, I did because he couldn’t. I know he would have been furious that I had to carry so much on my own.
Now that it’s finished, I feel like I lost the last thing that still connected me to him.
It’s been almost a year since my mom passed, and I’m standing in a place I never imagined—completely lost. The busyness that once distracted me from the pain is gone, and all that’s left is the silence. The sadness. The depression. Trying to figure out who I am and what my life looks like without the two people who loved me first.
People often think grief gets easier with time. Sometimes it doesn’t get easier …it just changes. And this feels like a whole new stage of grieving that I wasn’t prepared for.
I’m taking it one day at a time, hoping that somewhere in all of this heartbreak, I’ll eventually find a new purpose. Until then, I’ll keep loving them, missing them, and carrying them with me every single day. ♥️
