The climate is AT WAR with us. As in war, we need propaganda to rally people. Deploy the armed forces to build out the energy grid, ban new ICE cars immediately, ration meat, lock up traitors (oil lobby). Invest in green industry/research as if it were tanks/planes/bombs.

Excited to share the first paper from my lab! Before you dive in, take a guess - which type of boundary supports the representation of space in our brain: flat or elevated or both? Find out by reading our paper in the link below… cell.com/current-biolog…

High volume AI generated code only makes this situation worse. Until the AI gets really good at maintaining existing code. Or the AI is able to disrupt an entire old codebase by building a new one from scratch with minimal human effort.

(numbers below are guesses only) If a piece of software is actively useful, about 1 in 4 lines of code will need to be altered every year. At 1k lines / week, one engineer can maintain 160k lines of code (optimistic). But one engineer could write 160k lines in under 3 years...

So, don't be surprised after churning out 50k lines of low business value code for 3 years that you find yourself maintaining 150k lines of code without any help... then again, software people rarely stick around that long, so perhaps this is more for management to consider.

... e) success story - every line of code adds so much value to the business that there is budget to hire engineers fast, even post-ZIRP. I may have missed something, but basically these are the outcomes to expect/choose from...

@JujuliaGrace It's one thing to privately vote for the lessor of two evils, but why announce it publicly so far ahead of time? Doesn't that mean you lose any kind of leverage you may have had? Even if the politicians highly suspect your intentions a bit of doubt can go a long way.

Do I love Keir Starmer? No Am I going to be part of the tactical vote campaign seeking to oust every single Tory from Parliament? Yes, yes I am. Once the Tories have gone, we can start demanding what we want from Labour.

Democracy is easier to sell to the masses in school/military classrooms, on the news, and elsewhere in public life. Imagine telling kids "when you're older you will get out of bed every day and go to work for someone based on a series of decisions by wealthy people"...hard sell.

In a Democratic Capitalist system, capital is - by design - a huge part of the power structure. Whether that's pension funds, hedge funds, oil money etc. The system *wants* the controllers of capital to steer the big descsions. The "democracy" part is just seasoning on top.

Climate action should be "proportional and pragmatic", Sunak says. Excellent. In other words, given that we're facing the greatest danger humanity has ever confronted, we should be pulling out all the stops. Oh, turns out he means the opposite.

If you don't like change, or don't like being imposed upon by others, wake the f**k up ...change is coming whether or not you like it. The Sun is not open to negotiation; it won't make mistakes, or be lenient..it's coming for you.

What do #LLMs mean for agent based simulation? Could you more accurately model the economic impact of, e.g. gov policy or economic shocks, by simmulating stream of consciousness descion making of synthetic people in society? Would it be more accurate than current approximations?
