@evandoorbell I've heard it before. I real long distance call before modern technology.
English

This is mostly real. The triple tone is in lieu of an operator answer phrase. When it sounds, it means go ahead and ask for what you want.

@isee_colors @evandoorbell @TheGoldenDays Yet I still have a 5 CD carousel from 1991. Barely working but I played a CD on it about a week ago.
English

@dmine45 @evandoorbell @TheGoldenDays I just realized I am down to 1 device that can play a music CD and zero devices for any data use.
English

@evandoorbell @TheGoldenDays And yet I have some that I burned in 1999 and are just fine. I was looking for some old documents and found the old CDs and got the data off. What scares me are the old ZIP and JAZZ drives. Remember those? Those are notorious for breaking!
English

@dmine45 @TheGoldenDays The REAL trauma was when the successfully burned ones would start getting errors in less than five years.
English

@isee_colors @evandoorbell I wonder when Bay Shore CO will be shut down?
English

@dmine45 @evandoorbell Our Long Island DMS-100 is still plugged in but it is on the shutdown list for all traffic being re-routed to a local Softswitch about 10 miles away. When we moved in the CO had both 5XB and 1AEss. They upgraded both of them in 1987 to the DMS.
English

I heard from an industry contact today that what we think is the last 4ESS switch in the network will be powered down tonight. It's the switch in Lansing, MI. Traffic has already been rerouted to other switches in the new N4E (Next Generation 4ESS) network. @evandoorbell

@isee_colors @TheGoldenDays I remember using Mosaic and it did have graphics. But Lynx was text only. I remember the Internet prior to the web. All we had was Telnet, IRC, FTP, and Usenet.
English

@evandoorbell I always wondered why Jane used the name "Lynn Morgan" for her horoscopes. Now we know.

Merry Christmas! Ho, Ho, Hoe Avenue!

@montef @ems9999ems1 @uncommnephemera @evandoorbell OK, I wondered how that "no routes found" got on the network. I hear it every so often when I do experimentation.
English

@ems9999ems1 @uncommnephemera @evandoorbell He sounds like an alternate voice for Marvin the Paranoid Android from HHGTTG. “No routes found, oh god I’m so depressed.”
“Please enjoy your trip to this reorder tone.” 😑🤖
English

@evandoorbell Here's that number I mentioned. What's fascinating is the vague "no routes found" message before Verizon (my mobile provider) puts on a modern P recording. The noise in the background is very central-officey. Thought you'd enjoy.
English

Got a new answering machine. The Western Electric model 1-B from 1955. Still had the original outgoing announcement. Sadly no incoming messages though. Its all tube and has a tone wheel like a B-3 organ for the beep. @evandoorbell @uncommnephemera @dmine45
English

@sturmovikdragon @evandoorbell Primarily for the cell service. They still route via the Long Lines network.
English
@dmine45 @evandoorbell Boo!
How is there even enough circuit switching to justify an upgrade 😭
English

@evandoorbell I think none of us thought the 5ESS or DMS-100 would be replaced. And the 4ESS as well. But here we are.
English

@dmine45 Never thought I’d see 5ESS replaced by something more modern…
English

@DonGeronimoShow @EastCoastBob So where are you now? Coming back to radio?
