I updated the app website a bit to get ready for the launch of Subscription Day² for iOS subsday.appps.od.ua

@nyn Yeah, if that’s what you mean, then yes, I ran into the same thing. For the About dialog it uses that icon, and it already has the glow, and it seems like you can’t remove it.

that's what I am doing for the 'app' itself, but like you called out. In fact in the app itself (about dialog) when I 'programmatically' pull the icon, it still shows the glow. Pulling the app icon from NSApplication.shared.applicationIconImage, which is the runtime app icon that macOS resolves from your Assets.xcassets AppIcon set.

✨ I started enjoying it a lot when I understood how Apple’s Icon Composer works. Now I build all icons there and will never go back to those sets of dozens of sizes

@dmitriychuta Case in point -> notchpad.org I am generally happy about the icon itself (how it has turned up), but the border glow is part not so much.

That’s exactly what I’m talking about, you don’t need to export anything to PNG. You create the icon, then just hit “Save”, move that single IC project file into your Xcode project alongside your main files, and in AppIcon you simply specify the name of that icon file. That’s all you need.

@dmitriychuta But if I’m exporting the icon for the web (png) it always renders with the glow. I haven’t checked how it shows in mac (mac apps), but I think it renders the glow as well.

@nyn In IC, changing the direction doesn’t affect the app icon at all if that’s what you mean, it’s just a preview. The glow is rendered dynamically on the device depending on the tilt of the phone. And on versions below iOS 26, it’s not there at all.

@dmitriychuta Did you figure out how to remove the ‘default border glow’ that comes with the silhouette? I am able to change direction but not remove it

@nyn That’s not really related to the icon at all, if you’re talking about the border around it. You don’t need to export images from IC, that’s kind of the whole point. Unless it’s for some marketing purposes.

@seraleev It was obvious Apple wouldn’t allow this, but it was worth trying.

@MCLang88 I don’t quite understand what you mean. I’m talking about the approach that preparing an icon is easier in IC than using the old methods with multiple sizes.

@PawelStaniek It’s worth trying or giving it a second chance if you tried IC in the early days after release.

@Ivangrisa For me, it’s not memorable and doesn’t attract attention.

@klasse Two simple steps: 1) Drag and drop the icon file into your Xcode project, not into Assets. It will appear with the Icon Composer icon 2) General > App Icon, specify the file name and that’s it

@maalaned It’s worth trying again. Yes, you no longer need to export anything. You have a single icon file that already includes all sizes and Light/Dark variants, and you just add it to Xcode as one file. No more asset sets with dozens of sizes are needed.

@dmitriychuta Interesting. I tried it once. But bit confused. How do we submit it to the AppStore? As an single icon file or export all the variables into image formats? 🤔

@RemarqueLLM It feels unusual after Figma and a bit different, but it’s definitely simpler when it comes to the whole process of preparing an app icon.

Yeah, that would be great. I do miss a bit more control over shadows, and I don’t really understand why they can only be applied to a group, but honestly it’s enough for me. I agree that IC’s potential hasn’t been fully explored yet and it could be pushed much further, maybe even to support dynamic icons in the future.

@dmitriychuta I like the idea of the app but I feel like it has much more potential to be explored. Separating a composited image into layers and creating shadows would be a handy feature. If it were tied to GenEmoji like concept to be able to design icons right inside the app would be handy.

@domhfr Now it’s very simple. You create a single icon, and it automatically adapts to all sizes and devices, and you just select this file in Xcode with a single line. Before, you had to prepare different sizes or use apps that generated icons in various formats.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t understand the product at first or why it had so many limitations, but after giving it a second chance, I ended up loving it and its philosophy.
