@DonutShoes Creative constraints (write in 7/8, write in Ebm, 80bpm, use the root as little as possible, etc). The way to put this into practice is to write for other people. If you can work with their weird ass tastes and requests, you’ll get more nimble.

Expanding on this question a little. You practice playing an instrument by playing scales, running exercises, drilling parts. How do you *practice* writing music, like, what is the equivalent of running scales / doing exercises but for composing?
