جزئیات حیرت‌انگیز نجات دومین خلبان اف-١۵ آمریکایی از ایران در پی سقوط یک فروند جنگنده F-15E آمریکا در داخل خاک ایران، افسر تسلیحات این هواپیما که پس از اجکت از جنگنده از خلبان جدا افتاده بود، در عملیاتی پیچیده و پرخطر توسط نیروهای عملیات ویژه ایالات متحده نجات داده شد. بر اساس روایت مقام‌های آمریکایی، او پس از سقوط، زخمی و تنها در منطقه‌ای کوهستانی پنهان ماند و توانست بیش از ۴۸ ساعت از دست نیروهای ایرانی که در جست‌وجویش بودند، در امان بماند. به گفته مقام‌های ارشد آمریکایی، در ساعات اولیه پس از سقوط جنگنده، سازمان اطلاعات مرکزی آمریکا، سیا، یک عملیات فریب را در داخل ایران به اجرا گذاشت. در چارچوب این عملیات، این روایت منتشر شد که نیروهای آمریکایی خلبان را پیدا کرده‌اند و در حال انتقال زمینی او برای خروج از کشور هستند. هدف از این اقدام، ایجاد سردرگمی در میان نیروهای ایرانی و منحرف کردن تمرکز آن‌ها از محل واقعی نظامی آمریکایی بود. هم‌زمان، سیا با استفاده از امکانات اطلاعاتی و شناسایی خود، جست‌وجوی گسترده‌ای را برای یافتن محل اختفای او آغاز کرد و در نهایت توانست موقعیت دقیقش را شناسایی کند. پس از تعیین موقعیت، این اطلاعات بلافاصله در اختیار پنتاگون و کاخ سفید قرار گرفت و به دستور رئیس‌جمهور آمریکا، عملیات نجات آغاز شد. این مأموریت با مشارکت گسترده نیروهای عملیات ویژه، هواگردهای رزمی و سامانه‌های اطلاعاتی و ارتباطی اجرا شد. مقام‌های آمریکایی گفته‌اند این عملیات یکی از پیچیده‌ترین مأموریت‌های نیروهای ویژه آمریکا در سال‌های اخیر بوده و برای اجرای آن، صدها نیروی ویژه، ده‌ها جنگنده و بالگرد و همچنین ظرفیت‌های سایبری، فضایی و اطلاعاتی به کار گرفته شد. بر اساس این گزارش‌ها، افسر آمریکایی در تمام این مدت تنها یک سلاح کمری، تجهیزات ارتباطی امن و یک دستگاه موقعیت‌یاب اضطراری در اختیار داشت. گفته می‌شود احتمالا برخی از مردم محلی به این خلبان آمریکایی برای زنده ماندن و مخفی شدن کمک کرده‌اند. در جریان نزدیک شدن نیروهای آمریکایی به محل اختفای این افسر، درگیری مسلحانه‌ای نیز رخ داد. هواپیماهای آمریکایی برای دور نگه داشتن نیروهای ایرانی از منطقه، کاروان‌های نظامی را هدف قرار دادند و هم‌زمان یگان‌های عملیات ویژه به سمت محل حرکت کردند. در نهایت، این افسر از منطقه خارج و برای دریافت خدمات درمانی به کویت منتقل شد. مقام‌های آمریکایی تأکید کرده‌اند که در این عملیات، هیچ کدام از نیروهای ویژه کشته نشده‌اند. با این حال، مرحله نهایی عملیات بدون مشکل نبود. بر اساس گزارش مقام‌های نظامی آمریکا، پس از نجات این افسر، دو هواپیمای ترابری که قرار بود نیروهای ویژه را از ایران خارج کنند، دچار نقص فنی شدند و قادر به پرواز نبودند. در پی این وضعیت، فرماندهان آمریکایی سه هواپیمای دیگر را برای تکمیل عملیات اعزام کردند. پس از خروج همه نیروها، دو هواپیمای از کار افتاده سی-١٣٠ برای جلوگیری از افتادن‌شان به دست ایرانی‌ها، در محل منهدم شدند. مقام‌های آمریکایی، مجموعه رویدادهای پس از سقوط این هواپیما را از جمله کم‌سابقه‌ترین عملیات‌های نجات توصیف کرده‌اند؛ عملیاتی که از پنهان ماندن ۴۸ ساعته یک افسر آمریکایی در کوهستان‌های ایران آغاز شد و با عملیات فریب اطلاعاتی، درگیری مسلحانه، ورود گسترده نیروهای ویژه و در نهایت انهدام هواپیماهای از کار افتاده در خاک ایران پایان یافت.
