Growing up as a young (fine) man, people offered me money a lot. Sometimes as gifts, for friendship, or relationships. Sometimes for sex or just to have access to me. But I learned early that free things are rarely free. When people give you something, even when they don’t say it, there is usually an invisible debt attached. You start owing them time, attention, friendship, companionship, loyalty, or access you may not even want to give. I hated that position because I like to choose my friends and relationships on my own terms. There’s a line in David Graeber’s Debt: The First 5,000 Years that stayed with me: “By gifts one makes slaves and by whips one makes dogs.” It explains how both can be forms of control. One is just quieter. Even as a young man, I understood that the giver and the receiver are on two completely different trajectories. The giver is forced to earn, produce, and create value. The habitual receiver learns to wait, depend, and slowly become whatever keeps the giver interested. At some point, you have to release yourself from the take mentality because the longer you live only to receive, the more you train yourself to wait instead of build. The moment I started earning more, I gave more. I did giveaways here. I paid hospital bills. I even handed my shoe business over to my sales girl. And each time I gave, I earned more. Refusing free money, rejecting transactional intimacy, and choosing the harder road of becoming the person who could give is the mindset shift that changed my life.

Hustle to be the giver and not the receiver.

My dad! Out of 10 kids, he was the only one that his dad could send to school because of poverty After SSCE my dad became a primary school teacher in the village. Seeing that he wanted more, he went to Calabar on his own to survey the place and did not like it then he saved some money and ran to Lagos he never knew Lagos his parents asked him not to go to Lagos because of the rumors they heard about Lagos in the village of Lagos being filled with ghosts My dad had to bribe a post office van driver to take him to Lagos in the back of the van. they used 3 days on the road to get to Lagos. he arrived with nothing. Just himself. Fast forward, he got a Job, furthered his education himself and trained all his 9 siblings. took care of his parents, got married, trained all my mom's siblings in school too and took care of her parents Today the family at large is stable because of him. Everyone can fend for themselves. Till today if his elder sister is sick, he will travel to go and see her and if you complain he will say, his family was his push to become successful. so he can't help it

I saw a trending post, a wife refused to cook soup because husband dropped 15k. I know everyone is Dangote online but for real, 15k can cook soup but if you say it can’t, add your money. Things are very difficult for one person to cater for family now.
