After a storm, fallen branches and limbs can impact sidewalks, streets, and public spaces. Here’s what to know about proper limb and branch collection in DC. If you see a downed tree in public space, report it to 311. Branches in public space should be stacked in the tree box area so DC Government crews can collect them. Keeping limbs out of the roadway and sidewalks helps crews clear debris safely and efficiently. Learn more: 311.dc.gov

With severe weather expected later today, DPW crews are preparing for potential storm debris and roadway impacts. Loose items like trash cans and outdoor equipment should be tied down, secured, or moved indoors to prevent them from blocking streets and collection routes.

🚨 The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch in the District of Columbia until 7PM today, 3/16. A Tornado Watch means that tornadoes are possible in the area. Very strong and dangerous winds may cause downed trees/branches, localized power outages, and damage to homes and buildings. BEFORE A TORNADO: - Secure loose outdoor objects like trash cans, outdoor furniture, and other items that could become dangerous flying debris during a tornado. - Charge your phone and other communication, medical, or assistive devices in case of a power outage. - Identify a safe space to shelter if a Tornado Warning is issued. Visit ready.dc.gov/pages/hazard-t… for more safety tips. DURING A TORNADO: - Go to the nearest sturdy building if you are outside or in a vehicle. - Move to an interior room on the lowest floor if possible. STAY AWAY from windows.

Today, @DCWater completed emergency repairs to the Potomac Interceptor, restoring the full flow to the section that collapsed on Jan 19. This milestone reflects weeks of complex work led by DC Water and supported by regional and federal agencies. Over the past two months, @DC_HSEMA has worked alongside DC Water and partners including @EPA, @USACEBaltimore, and @NatlParkService to coordinate recovery efforts. While restoring flow is an important step, coordination and recovery work will continue in the weeks ahead. Thank you to the staff across agencies who have worked around the clock to make this milestone possible.

Since January, DOEE has been monitoring E. coli levels in the Potomac River as part of the District’s response to the Potomac Interceptor collapse. The site provides sampling data from partners across the region, including DOEE, DC Water, Maryland Department of the Environment, Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, and Potomac Riverkeeper Network. As results become available, they will be added to the dashboard to provide a comprehensive, transparent view that brings regional water testing data into one place.
