@dave_mcpartlin At my primary school c.1993/4 a teacher ran step aerobics on a Friday lunchtime in the hall. We all loved it

We have this theory that the stuff us adults loved as children, is what our pupils love just as much as us (they just don't always know, yet!) So, watch this space throughout 2026 as we go proper old-school & embrace good old-fashioned, wholesome activities. Suggestions welcome!

90% of people in China own their own homes. In the UK/USA it is only 65%. The reason, they don't have for profit housing in China and homes are therefore not a ridiculously overpriced commodity.

@dofo2hp @TomTugendhat @sainsburys Majority of Tesco staff work part time because they actually earn more by working less hours and topping their wage up with benefits. Also, they're a business, their objective is to make money, it's that simple. The staff are free to go work somewhere else if they choose.

@dr_besty @TomTugendhat @sainsburys You don't have to ou prices up to cover costs. You can accept the costs and have lower profits. Unless you have shareholders who you put above your staff being able to have food and shelter

@bphillipsonMP @jamieoliver Ah yes. Training. The golden ticket to slashed budgets, classes of 32 and endless endless workload. That'll keep everyone in the classroom meeting every single child's individual needs 👏👏👏

Backed by £200m, we’re rolling out the biggest SEND teacher training programme ever — with SEND training required for every teacher. As @jamieoliver helped shine a light on, our amazing teachers need the right training to support every child with SEND. And that's what we'll do.
Jamie Oliver@jamieoliver

A very welcome announcement from the Secretary of State for Education @bphillipsonMP this evening - She is committing to proper training for new teachers to get better support and outcomes for children from Sep 2025. This is a start. #ComeOnBridget

@Samstricko181 Surely the issue is that there are too many variables. I'm predicting year 11 gcse results now, but I don't know if the student will be happy /well/hungry/angry, if the weather will be boiling hot / really wet, if the exam paper in the morning before mine is great or a stinker 😂

I find it odd/insulting towards colleagues when I hear arguments that teachers can’t predict exam grades. The issue isn’t teachers but that teachers don’t know what the grade thresholds come the summer will be as they change yearly & come out in the wash after the event.

Fun fact: Did you know that fully qualified F1 doctors in Plymouth hospitals (after completing a solid 5–6 years at medical school) are forced to: work as receptionists in the Obs and Gynae department and call patients to inform them that they have been booked for a Caesarean section on a said date, and discuss alternative dates? They also maintain this list and receive calls from patients. The nurses there feel that this is not their job. This is how your doctors are being utilised in the NHS.

@KirstieMAllsopp You're extremely wealthy thanks to luck and you have never had to rely on public services. Maybe others have a different opinion from you because they haven't had the same experience.

No wonder we are in the state we are, the number of people who do not understand why more and more taxes are not a good idea is absolutely staggering.

@damechatprrr @Headteacherchat ?? If you stay on UPS there is nowhere for your salary to go after 12 years of teaching. SLT on the leadership scale have plenty of scope for salary increases. There are 43 additional points.

@dofo2hp @Headteacherchat Starting salary London fringe: Minimum of £32,916. Outer London: Minimum of £36,413. Inner London: Minimum of £38,766.  by the time they're ready to take on leadership responsibility, the pay gap between them and slt isn't all that wide.

It’s not complicated, I believe if you don’t need it don’t take it. This is sometimes seen as old fashioned, but every one of every age needs to make their own judgement.
