If Mr. Beast really wants to buy the Angels, he should offer to buy a 40 percent stake from Arte, with the option to buy the team upon his passing. Use that money to then rebuild the minor league system. Maybe buy a Cal League team. New management. And let's go!

@weberju5 You’re complaining about hard science when this is a fantasy story about space wizards with laser swords and monsters. STFU

Every Sci-Fi writer who wants to do travel between different star systems has to deal with a fundamental problem: The distances are insane. There are multiple ways of tackling this. The first one is to just go really fast, up to a significant fraction of the speed of light. That's HARD. You have to know physics, deal with time dilation and so on; essentially you're forced to build large parts of your story around relativity. The other option is to go "faster than light" without actually accelerating in a conventional sense. That's warp in Star Trek or hyperdrive in Star Wars. You can have the space travel without any of those nasty little issues that relativity introduces into your story. Great! Once you insinuate that you accelerate a mass to near light speed, though, you open up the entire can of worms that comes with it. Your world building then has to deal with the fallout. TLJ does not. It breaks the rules that were set up earlier. It retroactively destroys the plot of 2 of the 3 original movies by making the Death Star completely redundant: Who needs a giant space lazor when you can just strap a hyperdrive to a large stone and ram it into a planet at near light speed? The fact that this nonsense ever got made shows how little respect Rian Johnson has not only for the lore, but also for his colleague who then had the near impossible task of cleaning up this mess (not that it mattered that much; the last sequel movie was an insane clusterfuck in is own right).
MarthsBars (FE, SW Mando/ST/TROS fan. Also on 🦋)@MarthsBars

I'll always defend TLJ's Holdo Maneuver as a stunning & crucial scene, & one that *works* in Star Wars. The takes claiming it "broke canon" are still so dumb. Eckhartsladder's animation saying it'd fail WITHOUT explaining WHY (just "it'd fail bc I said so") is still the worst.

Sorry Bears fans, but after diving into the economics, this new stadium deal is good for Chicago (minus the commute to games). Soldier Field did just 29 events last year with the Bears. If that number doubles without the NFL’s oversight, we could see a $200M boom in the Windy City. Is The Bears Stadium Move A Good Thing For Chicago? open.substack.com/pub/matthewsre…

This is literally why the Bears are considering moving to IN yet the original thought behind the OP is they should just pay the property taxes and be fine with it. Guess what - they don’t need to be fine with it. IL has a property tax issue and the Bears have every right to move out of state because of it. 🙄🙄
Betsey@Betsycashmoney

@SanchoPanzy SoFi's property taxes are irrelevant. SoFi got no special tax breaks-- they pay normal California property tax rates, which are structured very differently. It's illogical to think they should pay CA taxes in IL. If they want to pay CA state taxes, move to CA.

@domdastice When the NOI is $60-$80mm annually and they pay $0.00 now, and you want them to pay $50mm-$100mm in property taxes… Tell me how that’s sound business.

The absolute nail on the head here. Chi legislators were never going to allow the Bears to move to Arlington. They’d much rather they go to Hammond, which actually borders Chicago. Not enough downstate legislators to get legislation across the finish line w/o Chicago.
Ben Devine@Chicago_NFL

The Hammond site stopped being “leverage” when Chicago city officials collectively backed a move to Indiana over Arlington Heights - which isn’t just dead, it’s now negative leverage. Chicago was never letting AH win. No special session or bill could ever pass this. #DaBears

@KCPSShain In some ways, Hammond is more “Chicago” than Arlington Heights is. It is not however, closest to the most season ticket holders. But the Bears are betting that dosent matter and maybe they are right. I don’t want them going over state lines - but I get the rhym and reason.

A potential stadium rendering for the Bears’ preferred site in Hammond, Indiana after @grok read through every detail in the bill. Hammond officials say they are ready to provide the Bears over 300 acres to fully transform the Wolf Lake area into a year-round mixed use district.

If the stadium isn’t in the city of Chicago, why does anyone care if it’s in Arlington Heights or Hammond or anywhere else? Suburban stadiums are suburban stadiums. You’ll go there, watch the thing, leave. They’re not the Illinois Bears.

My one Bears take is that basically every team that has left its city center is worse off for it. I think the Jets and Giants playing in Jersey leaves them more disconnected from the city/region than they should be. Same with SF. You just get less juice, unfortunately.
Kevin Clark@bykevinclark

CM Punk does NOT want his Chicago Bears to move to Indiana. "The Indiana Bears is a small mom and pop shop that sells homemade gummy bears. It's not a storied franchise that goes back to George Halas." He goes deep here. Incredible This Is Football with Punk.
