💙💚 September is National DMV Appreciation Month! We’re giving a big THANK YOU to @VirginiaDMV for their vital role in registering organ, eye, and tissue donors every day.

The need for donation and transplant is more pronounced in minority communities where disproportionately higher rates of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease contribute to organ failure, especially kidney failure.

Why is NMDAM needed? 60% of patients on the national transplant waiting list are from multicultural communities. .

August is National Multiethnic Donor Awareness Month (NMDAM) – a collaborative effort to save and improve the quality of life of diverse communities by creating a positive culture for organ, eye and tissue donation.

This highlights the critical need for organ donation within Black communities. Together, we can work to address health disparities, increase donor registrations, and support those in need of life-saving transplants.

Currently, there are 28,527 Black transplant waiting recipients, representing 27.28% of all individuals on the national organ transplant waiting list.
