The Persian word for "spoon" is "Qâshoq" (قاشق) which is originally a loanword from Anatolian Turkish "Qašuq". This word has been incorporated into other regional languages such as Azerbaijani ("Qaşıq"), Iraqi Arabic (خاشوغه "Xāšūga") or Pashto (کاچوغه "Kāčúǧa").

Fortress in ruins, Tajikistan near to Afghanistan´s border. Pamir. Picture from "The Sandy Feet". Just imagine this place centuries ago, when it was full of life. Imagine the soldiers keeping watch at night, in the middle of winter. Amazing.

I find fascinating how traditional houses in the Badakhshan-Pamir region (modern Afghanistan and Tajikistan) still follow ancient Sogdian architecture from like 2000 years ago. The similarities between these pictures is amazing!
