@theChrisDo @fozzaru All true. Both of you. He seems old enough to learn to set a goal of his own or participate in setting one. As parents we also have to continually re-evaluate and upgrade how we interact with our kids as they mature. You have those tools Chris

@fozzaru It’s not his hike. This is true. Children, if left to their own device, don’t generally take action towards long term goals. They probably would not bathe, floss or go to school. Until they are mature enough to live past short term gratification, I try to be a good guide.

Whenever Mattias and I go for a hike, as we near the top, he says to me, “That’s it for me Dad, I’m turning back.” Why? Why would you stop when you are just 200 steps away? What story will you tell yourself by turning back now as opposed to completing what you set out to do?
