@DiscProg @Europeanaeu @HeritageHubIRE @NationalMons That’s Sally-Anne Fisher on the RHS. If I’m not mistaken, she is wearing her Bang on the Wall T shirt entitled ’If they can get one man on the moon, why not send all of them’. Claire Scally is behind Aidan, Dave O’Connor is behind Sally-Anne.

The Abbaye aux Dames, Caen was founded by Matilda of Flanders (wife of William the Conqueror, Queen of England & Duchess of Normandy) as a Benedictine nunnery in 1060. Queen Matilda is buried in the choir.

@irarchaeology @AveDeFaoite I wonder if the building adjoining the tower might have been contemporary or late medieval. The masonry where the pitched gable adjoined the castle looks quite fine.

This 16th century towerhouse at Merlin Park, Co Galway once belonged to the Lynch family. The gable outline of a late 17th/early 18th century house, which once stood adjacent the castle, can still be made out.

I’m not sure what this is! It’s embedded in the side wall inside the church. Can’t find a mention in the Historic Environment Viewer. Maybe it’s not important but I like it😬

I’ve a lady who submits the most wonderful articles to our community magazine, I’d love for her work to be published in a book. Can anyone recommend good Irish publishers? I want to plant seeds for her, she deserves it 🥰#bookpublishing #irishwriter #irishhistory #historian

@Stephkwoods Where’s this? Looks like a reused moulded fragment (from arcade pier?) hollowed out for reuse as a font or stoup… @donovandigs excavated something similar recently

Wow!! @MasonJohnes, @Blackfriarydig worked and unworked Purbeck marble on a 13thC shipwreck made from Irish oak...every chance this was heading our way. Purbeck known from Blackfriary, Christchurch and now possibly emerging from St Mary's Dublin (@donovandigs)
Prof Susan Oosthuizen@DrSueOosthuizen

The oldest surviving #shipwreck in English waters, in Poole bay, Dorset, was built from #Irish #oaks felled between 1242-65. It carried a cargo of worked & unworked Purbeck marble including 2 lovely #medieval marble grave slabs. Now formally protected. theguardian.com/culture/2022/j…
