What does grading reform actually look like from a principal’s perspective? In Episode 20, @beckypeppler @donsmithedu and @larsongarth sit down with middle school principal Ben Wopat to talk about leading grading change inside a real school building. From navigating resistance to supporting teachers through the work, this conversation highlights what implementation looks like in practice. 🎧 New episode drops March 20 👉 bit.ly/4srwILo #FiresInGrading #SchoolLeadership #GradingReform

What a week! Grateful for all of these partnerships!
FIRST Ed Resources@1stEdResources

This week’s work took @donsmithedu from California to Washington to Oregon, all centered on strengthening grading and learning practices. In Riverside, CA, system leaders examined their SBG implementation. In Seattle, principals worked through leadership challenges tied to grading reform. In Coos Bay, we spent two days in classrooms observing and coaching around SBL practices. Across contexts, the throughline was clarity, alignment, and support for teachers doing complex work. If your school or district is engaged in similar efforts, we are available to partner.

Join us in June in Chicago for the 2026 Culturize Institute! This is more than a conference, it is a community. I’m leading a breakout session on Fostering School Leader Efficacy. We will explore the research behind collective teacher efficacy and examine how a principal’s own sense of leadership efficacy directly influences staff belief and student achievement. @1stEdResources @LarsonGarth @casas_jimmy #Culturize culturizeinstitutes.com
