I’ve been trying to find 10 Relationship Managers for a Fintech, it’s been difficult. This isn’t even a specialized role. 50 is a stretch.

Anyone that has built or hired at scale understands the point Tosin of Moniepoint is trying to make. Finding one person is different from when you need 50 in a short while. And no, you cannot pass arround the same developers. Let's leave tech. Can you find great plumbers, mechanics, electricians in Nigeria? At scale? If you you want to repair a Mercedes with a complex problem in Lagos (10 million people) you'd be given the same 5 names. 3 would be those doing side waka from Coscharis. For Lekki Bridge, they imported people cos they could not find the 10 or so deep sea welders in Nigeria. Some skills take years to build and require systems. We are not talking tying gele, doing drop shipping. A global company competing no dey find who go "run am". There is a place for interns etc. But those are not the person that will build the company. We lied to ourselves that population = asset is where our problem stated. Nigeria has many problems and Tosin is not one of them. Go elsewhere and look for who will massage ya egos.

Last year, I got employed. Grateful to God.
There was a 15-month bond, and honestly I was skeptical. I didn’t see myself staying that long.
But here I am 15 months later.
In that time, I have applied to over 50 jobs. I got just one interview and didn’t scale through. I am still actively searching and trying to switch departments.
That experience has taught me something real. The job market is not as open as we think. It is crowded. You are not just competing with job seekers, but also people trying to switch roles, upskill, or reposition themselves.
It is not always about being unqualified. Sometimes it is simply the volume of competition.
So when people say “just get another job,” it is not that simple.
Sometimes, the job you have is the opportunity someone else is praying for.
Make the most of it while you keep pushing for more.

So I enter Abuja this morning for a meeting and forgot my charger at the airport.
I head to Ceddi Plaza to buy a new one and go to this smart looking fellow’s shop, he goes “I know you. You are Morris Monye. I saw your campaign flier. This charger is on the house”.
That made me so happy. Little things like that warm my heart.
