The funniest thing about this obvious astroturfing campaign for Stevens is none of them can unabashedly like her. It has to be “lowkey love this” or “she’s growing on me” or “I’m starting to like her” Her digital team has to normalize the embarrassment ppl feel supporting her.

Everywhere else, Catholicism is dying. But in Washington, it’s taking over. I wrote about the Catholic right for @NYMag. nymag.com/intelligencer/…

We have real problems in this country, the fact that it’s controversial to point out that Haley Stevens is a stone cold idiot is why we won’t solve them.

The government forced Anthropic's most capable models offline for 18 days. OpenAI delayed GPT-5.6 when asked. Intel gave Washington a 10% stake. My latest in @theprospect on how the industry that swore it didn't need the state learned to work with it. prospect.org/2026/07/14/sil…

@BenKrauss5 Has he really talked about immigration this cycle? It seems like he’s dropped the whole helping Trump build the wall unless I’ve missed something.

Anytime a left strategist makes the case that their faction can win Trump voters in red states, they bring up Dan Osborn. The problem is that Osborn runs on very specific economic populist policies that don't require much government spending or all that much bureaucracy. And of course he panders aggressively to Trump voters on immigration.

Irony here is that if we had the elitist, aristocratic system he wants, low-rent vulgar mediocrities like R.H. wouldn't have a platform. He's a product of the populism but his life is dedicated to convincing himself and others that he belongs in some kind of superior stratum.
Richard Hanania@RichardHanania

I explain why populism is bad: it's another form of identity politics. "Liberalism at least in theory,,,tries to get away from that. Populism completely embraces it." Tribalism is universal, but the people who make it a virtue are much worse than those who fight against it.

Property insurers are fleeing California due to wildfire risk. Could "Natural Disaster Insurance for All" be the answer? I spoke with the candidate winning over voters with this idea—and with her critics—for @monthly. washingtonmonthly.com/2026/07/13/jan…

@DomingueJordan Twitter is a place where you can get paid to say things like “the woman who got $40 million from corporations and has voted the way they want her to every time is not transactional” and you will not immediately burst into flames. 🔥
