Noting: While remaining inside in air-conditioned environment is helpful, about half the outdoor smoke particulates can still penetrate typical indoor spaces. Tighter-built homes will have much less outdoor air inside while drafty houses or those with open windows will more closely represent outdoor conditions, according to Maryland's Department of Environment.

ALERT: The entire DC area is now under a CODE PURPLE alert for very unhealthy air. This is some of the worst smoke pollution our area experienced on record.
Limit time outside and/or wear an N95 mask, if possible. This is esp true if you have asthma or respiratory issues. The smoke will be with us all today but should gradually improve tomorrow.

@wmata @MetroTransitPD You should have empty buses starting at Grosvenor for the southbound route in the morning. A lot of people park here and get on at this stop and the travel takes a long time to FH

Since Red Line summer construction began, we’ve taken steps to improve our shuttle bus operations and facilitate trips as smoothly as possible.
To keep things moving, clear bus lanes are essential. To date, @MetroTransitPD officers have directed more than 577 drivers to move their cars and issued more than 52 tickets in support of this effort.

There are still lines, but overall things seem to be going better today for Metro commuters taking shuttle buses because of a Red line shutdown. I’m told lights were tweaked on Wisconsin Avenue to help, and Metro says other tweaks were made related to the buses. #wmata
