Ohhh looks like they might be trying to find a way to preserve not using the final ICPS.

Artemis III orbit type confirmed, @NASA wants new commercial comms system for Live 4K Video COMMUNICATIONS As Orion is designed to fly into deep space, it's designed to rely the Deep Space Network (DSN). That's not available in LEO, and TDRSS is already congested. @NASA would like "live 4K imagery during rendezvous and docking operations, and downlink of large files in other phases of flight." A new request for information (RFI) has just been released, looking for a commercial solution with the following objectives: - Near continuous communication (goal: >75%) - >12 Mbps Downlink (goal: 20-50Mbps) - >500 kbps Uplink - System must provide a broad field of regard or steerable antenna/aperture (Orion has many driving attitude constraints so precise vehicle pointing of a fixed antenna/aperture is not available) I wonder who has a flight-proven, self-steering, on-orbit system for high-bandwidth communications... cough cough @SpaceX @Starlink OTHER DETAILS The RFI says to assume a Summer 2027 launch, and a 460km (250nmi) circular 33° orbit. @NASA had been deciding between a High Earth Orbit (HEO) and Low Earth Orbit (LEO), and it looks like the latter has been selected. A LEO probably doesn't require the use of an upper stage, saving an ICPS. 📷 L: @NASA | R: @SpaceX

I’ll have a fresh Field of 64 out tomorrow. But this was a crushing week for ECU. RPI currently down to 39, but games are still ongoing so that could change. Blame injuries all you want, but ECU beat itself this weekend. Out-coached and outplayed all around.

What the fuck do you want the governor to do? He has proposed an increase in spending for our public schools. Meanwhile, the Republican-controlled legislature won't pass a budget and continues to fund school vouchers. This is a Republican problem, not a Josh Stein problem.
Robert Burns@RobertBurns82

North Carolina’s Department of Education is broken. It’s bleeding tax money. It has over-administration. Teachers aren’t getting paid enough. Social issues are being taught over math, science, history, reading, and writing. Buildings are in disrepair. Violence in schools is out of control. Simply ask yourself, what has our governor done about all of this? NOTHING.

Some thoughts as Mills drops out: * I've been poorly inclined towards Platner for the obvious reasons - no use relitigating them. * It seems pretty clear Platner just has the juice with Maine voters and Mills did not. He has a better chance in the general. * Despite my reservations, I would vote for Platner over Collins if I lived in Maine and encourage others to do the same. Control of the Senate is too important to risk. * It's good that Mills is dropping out of a losing race early rather than fighting a nasty battle to the end. Deserves some credit. * Lots of people will want to universalize this race to be about their particular thing. Populism vs establishment, left vs center, white working class aesthetics, etc. But Maine is an odd state and I think it's difficult to universalize it.
