@thorku Cleveland traded 3 Second round picks to get the #1 MLB in the draft. its not the best trade but if he ends up Ray Lewis or Patrick Willis no one complains and they still get their RB at #7.....

i mean this looks bad now but at the time Pat Mahomes was an unproven commodity with a live arm, and it is why he went 10th instead of 1st.. I agree they evaluate talent badly but this is the normal for most years. I do believe he benefited greatly sitting behind Alex Smith his rookie year

I am a personal trainer and agree that an athlete can be trained to a degree, but the concept that most people can be trained to be a pro level athlete is flawed. I am a believer that most athletes can be trained to be a star player at their local public school if they have the desire to work and train their mind and body from a young age, get proper nutrition, have the passion for the sport they play, and avoid major injury and burnout. Beyond local high school levels of play I believe genetics will play the biggest factor as from that point on you are competing against mostly people with the same work ethic or greater, or phenomenal genetic traits(untapped potential) that coaches are looking to unlock the work ethic to develop that potential.

As a former MLB hitter I’m 50/50 on this. Genetics play a role I do believe. Size, strength, speed, etc. Sometimes the Packers would come hit with us in Milwaukee. There were a couple guys like Aaron and another that I can’t remember his name that could hit decently. Then there were others, a couple of the wide receivers and tight ends, physical specimen guys, that had terrible swings and no hand eye, even though they were freak athletes. Now with that said, hitting is all hand eye coordination. You can’t hit at the highest level without elite hand eye. Just like you can’t box without it, be a Tour golfer, or even play hockey. Doesn’t matter what your genetics are or what you were born with or how big and strong you are. My personal belief is that elite hand eye, and athleticism in general, can be trained into a child from a young age, regardless of genetics. @bobbystroupe friend of mine and strength coach for Pat Maholms once told me this is possible if you start them at a young enough age. I’d be interested to hear opinions from any strength coaches or professionals in the field of elite athlete development to hear their thoughts on this concept.
Coachlee29@aarf29

I’m going to make a very controversial statement about hitting: 99.9% of #MLB hitters a born, not made. You are either born with the ability to be a major league hitter or you’re not. I firmly believe that.

By your logic the a jet wouldn't need wheels to take off... a guy was riding in a truck at 50 mph and shot out of an ejection seat opposite direction of the truck he would land with zero momentum so if a jet weighing say 1000lbs would rely on the thrust to accelerate the wheels to achieve lift so if the ground was going as fast the opposite way the plane would never move or achieve lift

@dowdy1986 @inkakiev @engineers_feed @grok The jets move the air. They "push off" of the air, moving the plane forward. The only force on the wheels is the normal force pushing up from the ground or the treadmill.

@WittyOneTwo @inkakiev @engineers_feed @grok Wrong the plane has to use the momentum from the thrust while riding on the wheels to move forward until lift is achieved by using air resistance from forward movement. So if the conveyor belt is designed to completely counter forward movement then no lift would ever happen.

@dowdy1986 @inkakiev @engineers_feed @grok Cars move forward by rotational energy from the engine transferred to the wheels. Jets move forward by thrust created from turbines. The wheels are not involved in anyway.

@inkakiev @engineers_feed @grok Just as they test cars top speed wile the car doesn't actually move, if the conveyer belt was the only thing that moved and the plane sat still the plane would not fly. No acceleration no flight.

The football example sucks, because the point in football is to move the ball down the field over a set of plays, baseball is to move rubbers around to score. Where the ball ends up in football is the important thing. In baseball it is less about where the ball ends up and more about the progress of the base runners.... fundamentally different goals. Coming from a football coach thr catch rules in football are the worst set of designed rules ever put together. I would prefer a simple 1 foot and possession for a catch would make it easier yes, but also better officiated.

I hear you but that is a signing bonus literally designed to make the player want to sign with a team and is an incentive... just because he wants to be done doesn't give a team the right to take garenteed money... if they wanted to cut him they wouldn't be able to touch it... If teams don't like it playing out this way don't offer it...
