@Yuna14114737 @magicspeedwagon We had around 8 days last summer, and over 10 in 2024, that we spent over 100°. It sucked massively, but we went inside to our air-conditioned houses. I had 3 windows units in 2024 going to keep my home cooled when flooding knocked out the central AC. It happens man.

@doyle9311 @magicspeedwagon We reached 109°F outside yesterday in France :) It is hot in the summer, yes, but France isn't supposed to have such heat waves. The point isn't that we're hot, it's that we're afraid of what the climate will become cause we can't afford to be any hotter.

@The_Wise_Otter @DMC_Ryan I would agree thay he was lead designer and that he did have a huge impact on those games. But he didn't do any of the hardcore developing past Marathon, Myth, and the early days of Halo. He left H2 development early on to lead the Phoenix team, but had to come back to finish H2

@doyle9311 @DMC_Ryan You’re terribly misinformed. Jason was the lead designer of Marathon, Halo and D1 man. He was the main guy to decide Halo should be a first person shooter. Without Jason, there would be no Bungie. No Halo, no Destiny. The FPS genre as a whole would be unrecognisable

@BowTiedYukon Holy shit... I am overweight, and I weigh about 225. I can feel how good I get when I drop to 210 or lower. I cannot imagine having the frame of a 1st grader and being heavier than I am now. The parents deserve a year of 1,200 calorie days, then execution.

@susi815 Partially. They hate her because she is white and for being better than them at basketball. All because it is assumed that basketball is a "black" sport. What is funny though, is that there are a lot of white kids who are great at basketball, but have zero desire to play in NBA.

@o_sneedy If some devs from the Halo days are right, then it sounds like he mostly checked out after Halo 2 development started, and kind of failed with Stencil. He basically left and started the "Phoenix" team. And when Halo 2 had to be rescued, he dropped that. Left until Halo 3 ended.

He's obviously a legend of gaming and deserves immense credit for creating Bungie, Halo, Marathon etc. but it's clear that a lot of Bungies issues in recent years are due to decisions he's made It seems like he just checked out and stopped caring

🚨NEW: Bungie layoffs seemingly include co-founder Jason Jones. A WARN filing lists Chief Vision Officer among the affected roles. Jones was previously Bungie’s CVO, per an official press release and a Destiny 2 Showcase in 2021 - thegamepost.com/bungie-layoffs…

@9mmsmg Exactly My grandpa was a smoker and heavy drinker in his day. He retired. Couldn't sit still, so he got a part time job at the hardware store, and got a paper route delivering the shopper paper in my town. Made it to 68 and died of a torn aorta. My dad is 62. I worry now.

You have to understand that health and life expectancy is largely just genetic. We can't actually beat genetics, the best we can do is fight against them. You can be doing 14 hours of cardio a week, eating healthy, have perfect blood pressure and cholesterol and your heart can just stop beating at 25 randomly. Meanwhile some can smoke two packs a day and live to 100.

@FenixAmmunition @memecrashes The imaging center will either bill insurance for $3,000, and my insurance will cover 60%. Or I can private pay it, and I will pay $1,200 for it. I'll take the insurance route, because I will get most of my deductible and out-of-pocket-maximum covered. Scheduled in 1 week too.

@DAKKADAKKA1 Unless something miraculous happens, I fear that there will be 2 most likely outcomes. 1. Nothing will happen, and things will continue to get worse. 2. The opposite will happen, and some whites will rise up and do far worse than what non-whites are doing.

@Nicolas_Colin Do you guys not have backyards, or the side of your buildings? That's where we put our ACs, not the front. Mitsubishi and Fujitsu could build millions of mini-split systems to accommodate nee Euro customers in basically 9 months. Techs do the installs. All over Europe. Pay them

I don’t understand the whole “AC in Europe” debate. The controversy mostly exists to avoid a much simpler reality: you cannot roll out air conditioning across Europe at the scale and speed needed to solve immediate problems such as the current heatwave. Several factors are at play: • Europe did not used to experience this level of heat. Climate change has changed the picture, and relatively quickly. • Much of Europe’s building stock is old, often centuries old. These buildings were designed to moderate temperature with features such as thick walls and natural ventilation, not to accommodate modern air conditioning systems. • Those historic buildings are a huge asset. Their façades are part of what makes European cities attractive and economically valuable. You cannot simply cover them with external AC units without damaging that heritage. • Even with strong political will, who would pay for a continent-wide retrofit that preserves historic architecture? The cost would run into hundreds of billions of euros. • And even if the money were available, could manufacturers produce the equipment fast enough? Could installers be trained and hired quickly enough? Europe already faces labour shortages in many skilled trades. So where would the workforce come from? More immigration? That would simply create another round of the same xenophobic arguments that already dominate public debate. So that’s the short version: Europe will not have universal air conditioning anytime soon. Much of its building stock was not designed for it, and the necessary resources, money, industrial capacity, supply chains, and labour simply do not exist at the required scale. Air conditioning will spread, and in many places it already is. But it will happen gradually, starting with newer buildings where installation is easier and cheaper, and expanding as investment, production capacity, and skilled labour grow. There may even be an upside. As modern buildings become better adapted to hotter summers, some of the premium currently attached to beautiful old buildings may diminish, making them more affordable. In the meantime, people invent cultural controversies. Americans, in particular, seem unable to resist them. A European heatwave somehow becomes another opportunity for Europe-bashing, social media outrage, and people taking sides in a debate that ignores the practical constraints. It’s much easier to argue about why Europe doesn’t have air conditioning than to explain how you would install it across an entire continent.

@PancreasNo I remember in maybe Contact Harvest how the Covenant was thinking that Harvest must be super important for the Humans to be throwing everything at the Covenant. Once the war spread, the Covenant realized how widespread Humanity was.

I like how in Halo the start of the Human-Covenant War is “Harvest, this backwater farm world, was a grueling back and forth campaign of 5 years” and the end is “They got Reach in a month dude we’re so fucked”

@Wfflussy This is a "swamp cooler" and it does the opposite of an AC. This adds humidity to the air, making it feel slightly cooler because it is from evaporating ice. But eventually, the air cannot take on more humidity, it gets warmer, and you end up with heat and humid air. Miserable.

@AllenJames6813 Don't do it. You are wasting your money. Your future boss will not pay you more, and you will still have to go through an apprenticeship to get licensed. The college classes will fo nothing for you in the long run. Just go get a job and do it for 6 months. Make money and learn.

@CatholicSat Francis was this odd kind of Pope. When he started, it seemed like every year we had something new that was weirdly un-Catholic. Then, one day it was like a flip was switched, and he started acting Catholic, and even funny like this. Maybe he knew his time was coming?

One of Pope Francis’ all-time highlights. In Luxembourg, Jörg Michael Peters, Auxiliary Bishop of Trier, introduces himself to the Pope as a “representative of the German Bishops’ Conference” to which the Pope retorted “are you Catholic?”
