1/3 Let me unpack more. Deep neural network (DNN) harmonization can remove nonlinear, spatially-distributed site differences missed by ComBat. BUT DNNs also remove real biological info :( We prove that this issue is inherent to approaches that ignore covariate (e.g. age, sex)...

@NTFabiano GFC measures average functional connectivity (FC) from the surface vertex in question with every other vertex. You’re seeing reduced FC of associative areas with the rest of the brain surface, and increased FC of sensory with the rest of the brain surface.

LSD reduced communication among brain areas involved in planning and decision-making, but it increased communication between areas involved in sensation and movement. 5/10
