@Engineeringkate That sucks. I was one of the 'lucky' ones and only had super mild symptoms and was able to go back to normal life after my 7 days iso. But have plenty of friends that are triple vaxxed and have been/are quite unwell with lingering symptoms.

Could not agree with this more. Pretty much my career goals summarised here!

Dear Universe, I don’t want to be a PI, I don’t want to be my own boss. I just want to a job where I can do some sort of science and help people and get paid decently. Thanks, M

@JeanneLePeillet @PhDVoice @PhD_Genie @Anxious_PhD I'd say 6 months of 9-5ish days. I had the luxury of time, so really didn't do much after hours or weekend writing.

📚I'm going to have to write my PhD manuscript in 2 months and a half if I want to finish in time for my grandma to come and see me ♥️🥳
No time to be bored! 🤪
How long did it take you to write yours?

@LouisMolloyPGR @AcademicChatter @ThePhDPlace @PhDVoice @PhD_Genie 1-2 sentences on what problem needs solving/investigating. 1 sentence on summary of work presented in abstract. 1-2 sentences on what you did (How) 1-2 sentences on results. 1-2 sentences summarising how you work solves/contributes to the problem mentioned at the start

Afternoon all, any tips for writing an abstract for a conference? (3000 character abstract of PhD project). Any help would be great!😊. @AcademicChatter @ThePhDPlace @PhDVoice @PhD_Genie #AcademicTwitter #AcademicChatter

@science_latte I think you need to be upfront about it. If you don't want to contribute any further, say that and allow other postdocs/researchers to write up the work if they want. I've done this for a number of PhD students and kept them as authors, but it's up to me to completely drive it.
English

@GongGasGirl I guess it depends who you hang around with. I haven't received much grief about it. Maybe it's because of my sneaky non-traditional spelling?

Early voting has begun today! Fred is so excited he’s whipped out his #democracysausage dog vest. He’s waiting for election day (to get a sausage) but if you can’t make it on 21 May then there are 500+ early voting centres operating.

@mbismark I'm happy to review if I have the time and it's in my area. Usually works out to be 1 a month, so far more than I publish. But I definitely don't feel bad about turning down a lot of the invitations I get, as they're usually not in my area of expertise.
English

@bobepidemiology That's similar to my experience. Nasal congestion with a headache, so not even feeling 'really bad', for about a week, then back to normal. No fatigue. But that's why I got triple vaxxed!
English

Norman says omicron “tends to knock you around for three or four weeks.” That’s not been the experience of people I know - a couple of days feeling really bad and back to normal after a week or so.

This week’s Coronacast! Yes, you can get long COVID if you're triple vaxxed abc.net.au/radio/programs…

@PhD_Genie I honestly can't remember. I know I was meant to submit on the Friday, but couldn't get the binding organised by close of business, so just went to my 'submission' drinks at the pub, even though I hadn't actually submitted yet. So probably had a nice (hungover) weekend!

@FromPhDtoLife I'm a creature of habit, but tend to change it up every 3 or so years. Currently (M-Sa.) it's greek yoghurt, fruit and granola + hard boiled egg + coffee. Sunday's it's eggs, bacon, hash brown and haloumi + coffee.
English

@KYT_ThatsME Same! In the 15 years since starting my PhD, I've made every single poster, paper and figure in either Word, PowerPoint or Excel. Not once has anyone complained on their quality. Sure, they're not fancy arse looking, but do they really need to be?
English

@whereisdaz @sciencesarah Same. I really like my female dentist. I don't think I'd go to a dentist who I thought was an asshole just because they did good work!
