Hey friends! Many of you have told me that you enjoy my technical Motorsport content and the educational posts I write. Some have also asked how they can support me. While I have always provided my content for free, I decided to add some options for people to support me financially. I’ve also added a subscriber option for deep technical content I will post for only subscribers. But, I will still have plenty of free content on here and saved on my buy me a coffee page. I love to write as well as speak, so I will be looking to create more journal style posts, as well as quick tech byte videos. I would also like to make more long form and partner with teams to do track side videos for you!! However, I need to update my camera, microphone, and editing software to take it to the next level. So just know any donations you provide will go right back to making even more content for you! I appreciate all of my supporters/followers and value our interactions. This is a passion project for me, and I want to keep doing it more and more. So thank you all for the many different kinds of support you give me! Please do spread the word! 🫶 ❤️ Check out my profile: buymeacoffee.com/itGd7j45ZE

@thef1diplomat @TheVFCastro Do these shows take out insurance for these kind of things. Because that’s a whole season of production costs gone with no return

@TheVFCastro @dr_obbs The truth is the networks don’t really care unless the court of public opinion does. They will purposely use a 3rd party screening/BG company to “offload” the liability “if” it ever becomes an issue. This is mostly with reality shows that are raunchy/less kid/family friendly.

So ABC cancels TFP’s season of The Bachelorette just after 2023 video of her assaulting her boyfriend and injuring their daughter goes viral. They knew about the DV case when they brought her on. I don’t watch this franchise so I don’t know if ignoring prior information on cast members is consistently ignored, but this certainly makes the case for the public to be more discerning about the content they watch and the people they expose their kids to.

@TheVFCastro Yep. And it’s an odd choice the the bachelor/bachelorette franchise as well to go with a reality TV name for their lead

@dr_obbs I’ve seen so many clips on IG of the Mormon Wives show where her issues were apparently well known? I’ve never watched that show but it seems like evidence was abundant that she was a character risk.

Very strange to see Wheatley to Aston is a done deal after all many in #F1 circles felt Seidl was expected to replace Newey. If true, it's a massive blow for Audi to lose the figurehead who helped turn a rudderless Sauber team into a respectable outfit in less than 12 months.

@MP351NZ Before brake application they lift and coast and regen on the rear axle. So you would want more rear aero bias for this regen phase, and the. Shift the aero more forward for initial braking.

@dr_obbs Doesn’t the wing go back to the high position when the brake is applied? You would think they want max downforce on the front tyres at that point. In saying that they now run off the throttle and drift into some corners charging so perhaps that’s the reason and theory?!?

Very interesting observation. I don’t think the regs are ambiguous at all on this. 400ms is the regulation for closing time. However, the aero load could be different depending on the corner entry speed at the point of movement. With greater load pushing against the front wing elements, the load on the actuator would increase. With a hydraulic actuator this means more pressure to move the flap. Could you design some kind of a pressure activated bypass valve, or a relief valve that would slow this pressure build up and movement under a given aero load? This would slow the closing time, but only under aero load. I don’t see why not.. In a static test under no aero load the closing time could be within regulation. But under aero load (above a threshold) the timing could change. Thus giving you a slight advantage in shedding drag for longer. Maybe some brilliant engineering… The easiest way to test this would be to apply a resistive load to the flap during closing to see if the closing time changes.

Why is the Mercedes front wing variable? I noticed this all last weekend. The Merc front wing was closing at different speeds depending on the corner, and that at it's slowest, it was closing in about 800ms, twice what the rules allow. This gif is slowed 4x and lines-up two corners on Russell's car where the wing closes much faster and much slower. Anyone have any theories as to what might be going on?

@abhay_venkat4 Yes. But I think it’s more connected to the timing of the rear axle regen requiring more rear aero bias.

@dr_obbs Oh damn, I noticed this during the race and thought that it had to do with the front wing issue they were talking about. I assumed it was an issue with the actuator that drastically slowed the transition. Would this also avoid the dive during breaking with more load at the rear?

This would shift the aero balance rearward. And since the regen is on the rear axle this is where you need the load to max regen without losing rear end stability. So it would likely be a purposeful aero migration rearward, then more centrally after the front wing closes and they apply more front brake bias.
SimZ57@SimulationZ57

@dr_obbs The rear wing seems to close normally like within the usual time limit, could this not affect the centre of pressure given the front wing is still open or is the timing so minuscule from when the rear closes to the front that it doesn't make any difference?

@diaconu97 @EdSpencer99 Too much chatterbox in this reply. I can't understand it with the squealing sound in the background. It's a high pitched whine.

@the_zb_ @lecvsn Zach… it clear to me that some people never really understood the last regulation set… aerodynamically they were so rich.

What are you insinuating we’ve seen here? What we just saw was a very draggy Mercedes that was arguably better in the corners, get passed by a more slippery Red Bull that used their very effectively designed (non-homologated) DRS to get in a position to complete a move on the brakes into a heavy braking zone. What we would’ve seen in this reg cycle is the Mercedes being unable to complete the straight under normal power, and the Red Bull flying by mid straight with no contest or defense possible with a couple hundred meters left before the braking zone. And then given the Red Bull would’ve deployed its energy for the overtake, the Mercedes would likely just overtake it again during harvesting on the next section, but then once the Red Bull recharged its battery it would come back again and pass at a silly delta, but then the Mercedes would retake it coming into the next part of the lap, and then…

I think the past week F1TWT opened a new level of insanity and all time low. I feel like some of you genuinely forget that one we are here talking about actual people. And also the people behind these accs online they are also real people and some of the shits you guys are saying not only does not make sense but also borderline insane and offensive. So maybe take a step back and think a little....

The Red Bull is 20 kg heavier compared to the Alpine and 19 kg heavier compared to the McLaren. The Red Bull currently weighs 798.5 kg (Excluding fuel) (minimum driver weight 82 kg) This explains the high deg and lack of pace (Spotted by @MaxleclercVerst))
