@dr_samg Hi there, we are trying to get services on the move asap but at the moment nothing can move while the emergency services deal with an incident ^SC

If you're near Great Ayton tomorrow afternoon and with some time to kill, why not come and listen to Vox Choir North East? There might even be a solo from yours truly! facebook.com/events/s/summe…

@dr_samg @alrightPET Ms doesn't, though? The divorce thing was a weird assumption put out back in the day to stop people using it, wasn't it?

Only last week I saw an article where the male expert was addressed as Dr but the female expert - also a Dr - wasn't. Interesting long read here on why this matters.

@alrightPET @SuperScienceGrl And this is my problem with the whole thing - Miss, Mrs and Ms all make assumptions about an individual's marital / motherhood status...neither of which has any bearing on their professional standing. Agreed, Miss is awful.

@dr_samg @SuperScienceGrl I think it really depends - some sectors of society default to Ms, others use Miss until you get to about 35 or have kids (whichever comes first!) then it's Mrs. Ms is often taken as "Miss but older", so I'm not a fan.

@SuperScienceGrl @alrightPET At conferences maybe, but not in general (at least in my experience). Even with my quals I get the dreaded "Dr Miss" 🤢. Personally I'd prefer if professional titles were the only titles used.

@dr_samg @alrightPET Isn't the consensus for women Ms? That's what people normally assume for women at things I go to; I don't mind someone calling me that and it happens a lot at these things. Sadly doesn't work for many nb. I would like to raise the profile of Mx as an option for those who want it

@SuperScienceGrl @alrightPET Maybe 'consensus' wasn't the right word, what I meant was an established way to assign titles that don't alienate / insult. I use the same titles as @alrightPET, for the same reasons... but it bothers me that female and non-binary colleagues without a PhD don't have that choice.

@dr_samg @alrightPET To be fair, I don't think people need a consensus so much as we need freedom :) I always go with Mx if title is needed, but since I don't have a doctorate I prefer not to be titled when others are called Dr and Prof. It's unnecessary when I don't have a title relevant to my field

Really enjoyed presenting our approach to teaching sustainability in engineering at @TeesUniSCEDT at #isee22! And great to hear what's happening at other institutions on the same topic.
