VL make easy intubations difficult!! The incidence of difficult intubations is 1 in 10,000 or less. VL are more expensive and will mandate the use of stylets for greater success. Cost of intubations will rise from £4/- per case to £40/- per case. Also more chances trauma larynx

@AirwayMxAcademy I have been warning against routine use of hyperangulated blades! Sheer Folly! We will have more airway traumas and strictures while trying to solve the problem of rare oesophageal intubations! Mac like blades are best for most intubations.

Hey #anaesthesia ⚠️Introduction of the videolaryngoscope with hyperangulated blades into clinical practise, without specific training, has caused thousands of severe airway complications! Has anyone realised that?!! 1 “we dont need to assess the airway anymore, because we have a VL” 2 “I dont need flexible intubation technique anymore, because we have VL” 3 “I dont need extra training because I am an experienced anesthesiologist” 4 “I never use or need a bougie” 5 “I have another brand VL so I can use this VL as 6 “I dont need DL anymore, because I have a VL” Key point: tracheal intubation with a VL with an hyperangulated blade is an advanced technique. ➡️Training is required! Many patients desaturate (or worse) because of the “can see cant intubate “ (CSCI) situation.
