That's cool, it had a good touch of Niaowu with that river area. Sounds very intriguing ☺️ I already thought, that medication must be amazing if you'd now already think about doing a sequel 🤪 Quite sure DOS, desire being much work, will likely be more fun, as it is a fun project after all. Keep it up. If you need a hand, don't forget, the community will be there to help where we can, no doubt about it.

@dragonseye76 Niaowu wasn't in the original trailer. There's a new village called Lanshui, but I didn't touch Niaowu until well after we made the trailer. And, ya, the sequel comment was a joke.

I recommend side by side comparisons, because in a lot of ways the screenshot show quite a lot of improvements, bigger ones (overall lighting, resultion and drawing distances) but also minor ones (reflections, better looking minor details, etc) - that shows off better how much the look improved for those who haven't played the original or aren't putting effort in to actually spot the (rather big) difference :) Looks great! I hope we get a little more to see very soon!

Well, I think those who liked Shenmue III will have realized the Short Niaowu moment in the early trailer :) I looked at the trailer and said.... that's Bailu village and then... wow - that looks a lot like... Niaowu. Wow! :) I wondered about your update if you feel better now about working on the project, because you not just stated that Reclaiming the path will come in Spring 2027, but also that there would be a sequel coming :D not sure if that has been you being ironic, or if you now feel that things with this big project simply flow better? :D just being curious - In any case I'm glad you're taking up that huge challenge!

@dragonseye76 Only a couple people know (knew) that I created pieces of Niaowu as well. I did indeed. I have a hard time looking at this picture.. It's outdated already.

Hey @SEGA @SEGA_OFFICIAL Let’s have a serious conversation about Shenmue IV & V and why an investment in the games is NOT a risk at this stage, because we can't understand what you are still waiting for: 1) Shenmue III suffered from overblown expectations vs. a modest budget and a full rebuild from scratch—yet despite that mismatch and resulting negativity, it still not only recovered costs but actually even turned a profit. That’s a strong baseline, not a failure. 2) If Shenmue III could succeed under those conditions, IV & V are in a much stronger position: Fan expectations are now more realistic, and most of the players have already accepted and even embraced the modernized style and pacing. 3) Announcing Shenmue IV + V together would directly address long-standing concerns since Shenmue II by guaranteeing closure—a powerful driver for fans who held back before. Certainty = higher conversion. 4) Around 60% of the story is still untold, and Shenmue III’s deliberately slow pacing means there’s room to deliver far more narrative progress and payoff in IV & V—making them feel bigger and more satisfying. 5) Developing IV & V alongside each other dramatically reduces cost and dev time: shared assets, systems, and tools (especially with upcoming Shenmue III enhancements) allow the team to focus budget on story, characters, new locations, and improved combat instead of rebuilding fundamentals. 6) The timing is ideal: with an enhanced version of Shenmue III Enhanced on the horizon, the asset base is fresh and perfectly reusable, enabling higher-quality sequels without heavy upfront investment into the base of the games. 7) Sega involvement—even at a mid-tier level—would instantly boost credibility and hype, especially with the return of classic SEGA arcade games and capsule toys, which are low-cost but high-impact fan favorites. 8) The fan-made (fake) Shenmue IV trailer (despite being unofficial) proved real demand: it drove 1M+ unique visits to Shenmue Dojo in 24 hours alone, not counting YouTube, social media, and press coverage. Interest isn’t theoretical—it’s measurable and immediate. 9) Even a conservative conversion shows viability: if just ~500K of those interested players buy at ~€30, that’s €15M revenue per game—before factoring in wider global sales, bundles, or long-tail digital income. The upside is clearly higher. Consider the budget on which Shenmue III has been developed and published - and now consider the above, the possibilities and potential. With a finite story, controlled scope, strong pacing, proven audience, reusable assets and baseline, and renewed momentum, Shenmue IV & V shift from a risky revival into a calculated, low-risk investment with strong upside potential. No more unresolved story, no more cliffhangers - the assurance of the story concluding will mend those fans who feel burnt by the waiting. Better pacing and strong story progress will rekindle the interest and support of fans that may still feel let down by Shenmue III. Good pacing, the option to rush through quicker if you wish to do so (Shenmue fans won't, modern players might), but also be able to have more interesting ways to kill time (i.e. pinball machine, bringing back darts, maybe adding pool billiard, adding different arcade machines like Shinobi, Alex Kidd, Wonder Boy, Fantasy Zone, Choplifter and Bank Panic), Sega related capsule toys and bringing back the craze of collecting sets of toy capsules to sell and make good money like in Shenmue II, new ways of working apart of fork lift driving and chopping wood (maybe working as a delivery service guy? helping in a kitchen?). here are many ways to create interesting ways for people to pass time with relatively little effort. And those who just want to play through and get over with it.... just let them run, they may like the games still, even though they don't grasp their essence. Now, why are you still doubting the potential of Shenmue? Shenmue 1 & 2 back in the day not making the invested money back wasn't really the game's fault - The dreamcast did not sell enough to make the games fully successful, especially with Shenmue II releasing long after the Dreamcast being discontinued. The Xbox exclusivity deal was a bad idea, especially not bringing Shenmue 1 either. It should have released on PS2 as it apparently had been planned and you would likely have made money back long time ago. Shenmue Online's failure - hardly a failure of the game series either. Whilst a neat idea, it was the production that was a mess and made it a failure before even officially being released. If we're being honest with ourselves - I think Shenmue 1&2 HD did quite well, especially considering that it was mainly a resolution boost and a few trophies added only, and considering that in it's core it was still a game from 1999/2001. I feel like the HD bundle sold far more copies than you had anticipated. Shenmue III was created without Sega licenses, building it all from scratch (except for the music) and on a tiny budget - yet it succeeded to rake in a modest profit... now imagine with Sega being involved again, the promise of closure and the hype that all of it will create - don't you think it's an easy win, considering that it will not require the "big budget" of the original games anymore? But to another point... When will you release Shenmue 1 & 2 HD for the Nintendo Switch / 2? Consider that in Q4 Shenmue III Enhanced is expected to drop as well for Nintendo's console. This should not be a big issue - and if you're doubtful about production costs? Well - make the Shenmue 1&2 HD release on Nintendo's consoles a digital only release and your financial risk will be very low I'd say, since the game should be easy to port, at least to the new Switch 2. @CedricBiscay @Steam @SEGA_Europe @SEGAJapan @YSNET_Inc @yu_suzuki_jp @Shenmue_Dojo #LetsBuyShenmue3Enhanced #LetsGetShenmue4 #LetsGetShenmue5

@dragonseye76 Exactly this. Life got in the way. It's still being worked on every day, and I mean that literally. I fell into a funk last year but have got more done so far this year than all of last year. Hoping for a Spring 27 release.

@Shenmue_Dojo I didn't get why people complained about Shenmue III's graphics - I thought it looked better than some of the other titles coming out the same year :) And what's for sure, this art style will age like fine wine - games striving for a realistic look usually don't age well.

For this week's #SaturdaySnapshot, we're strolling through the woods surrounding Bailu Village. 🌾🐓 It's moments like this where Shenmue III's beauty really comes through; the sun coming through the leaves, the dense foliage, the sounds of wildlife. We wish we were here! 🍃 #SEGA #LetsGetShenmue4
