That Gardiner flick never got the credit it deserved. Even here it is called a mere deflection but watch the slow mo replay to see the quality of it by Peadar Gardiner, especially considering the speed in McD's shot. Incredible dexterity.

Two Mayo SFC finals I recall that had great, late drama – Cross's equalising goal (Gardiner's glorious flick) against Ballagh' in 06 and Cross won the replay Shane Sweeney's winner for Ballina in 2003. But today was next level. Ballina 10 down with less than 10 to go and won!

@hugh_fanning @SmallerFishGAA No blanket, if you step off teams they will kick 2 pointers galore. 4 points encourages teams to go for it a little more. Ask a referee would they want to police 3 hand passes and you’ll get a swift response. Multitudes more contests this year. The old game is gone. Accept it.

@drakebakes @SmallerFishGAA 3 handpasses not hard to police at all. It's definitely worth a look as the level of handpassing is extreme. Wouldn't be encouraged on 4 point goal as may encourage team to protect goal and have a blanket. It used to be catch and kicking all over field with man on man contests.

I'm hearing the FRC trialled limiting the handpass last night.
It has to be done - there are just too many handpasses
I heard they trialled not being able to handpass twice in a row - that's too extreme 🙈
It's simple - 3 handpasses have to be followed by a kick and the kick HAS to go forward
