The first Lyme disease vaccine in decades may be getting close. A new vaccine candidate showed ~73% efficacy in phase 3 data. FDA review still pending. Lyme affects hundreds of thousands of Americans yearly, especially in endemic regions. A prevention tool like this would be a big deal if approved. #LymeDisease #MedTwitter

Hot take: The best health content should make people feel more informed, not more afraid. Fear gets clicks. Clarity builds trust.

The most underrated health metric? How you feel doing normal life. Can you climb stairs? Focus at work? Sleep through the night? Recover from stress? Enjoy your relationships? Move without fear? Health is not just optimization. It is function.

A simple rule for evaluating health advice online: If someone says one thing causes almost every disease, be skeptical. If someone says one product fixes almost every disease, be very skeptical. If someone says doctors are hiding the truth and only they have the answer, run.

Early-onset colon cancer is rising. New studies suggest possible links with metabolic dysfunction, fatty liver, diabetes, chronic inflammation, and gut microbiome disruption. Association is not causation. But if you’re young with rectal bleeding, unexplained iron deficiency, weight loss, or persistent bowel changes, age alone should not reassure you.

Ultra-processed foods may be doing more than expanding your waistline. New data links higher intake of ultra-processed foods with worse cognitive performance and greater dementia risk factors. This does NOT prove causation. But between inflammation, insulin resistance, vascular disease, and microbiome disruption… the signal makes biologic sense. Your brain likes real food too.

The older I get, the more I realize: Good health is a competitive advantage. Energy. Focus. Strength. Sleep. Mental clarity. It changes everything.

GLP-1s aren’t “melting your muscles” the way social media makes it sound. New data suggests most of the weight loss comes from fat, not disproportionate muscle loss, and muscle function appears largely preserved. The bigger issue? You still need resistance training and adequate protein while losing weight. GLP-1s are a tool, not a replacement for fitness.

Your vitamin D level at 40 might influence your brain at 60. ~800 adults followed for ~16 years showed: higher midlife vitamin D → lower tau burden later. No link with amyloid. Not causation. But the timing matters. Your future brain is being shaped right now.

Healthcare isn’t hard because of medicine. It’s hard because: • You’re expected to care endlessly • With limited time • Limited resources • And zero margin for error All while people think you “just prescribe meds.

Oral GLP-1s are coming. As a physician, I get why patients are excited. A pill feels easier than an injection. But in reality, it’s not always simpler. Now we’re adding: • strict timing • absorption issues • more meds to an already long list I’m not just prescribing weight loss anymore I’m managing polypharmacy in real life

As a physician, I hear this every day: “I don’t have time” But there’s time to scroll, stay up late, and skip meals. No judgment. Just awareness. You’re already spending time You’re just choosing health or decline. You don’t need more time. You need standards.

FDA approval: Eli Lilly’s orforglipron Oral GLP-1 for weight loss Once daily dosing No food restrictions If efficacy holds up in real world use, this could significantly expand treatment access.

Eating the same meals every day isn’t exciting… but it works. A recent study showed people who kept their meals consistent lost more weight. Not because of anything magical Just fewer decisions More control over calories Less room to slip Simple beats perfect every time.

A nasal brush biopsy might detect Alzheimer’s before symptoms even start. A quick outpatient swab of olfactory neurons can pick up early nerve + immune changes before memory loss. 81% accuracy in early data. The nose may be a window to the brain. Early detection = earlier intervention.

Premature menopause isn’t just about hot flashes or cycle changes It’s a cardiovascular signal Earlier loss of estrogen is linked to a higher lifetime risk of coronary heart disease We should be thinking prevention much earlier

If you want to be healthy, you have to work for it. Eat well. Move your body. Sleep properly. If you’re living on junk food, constant stress, no exercise, and poor sleep… don’t be surprised when problems show up. It’s not a matter of if. It’s when. Nothing is guaranteed, but most disease is built over time. The basics work. Prioritize prevention.

Measles isn’t just a rash and fever Doctors are warning about a rare but deadly complication called subacute sclerosing panencephalitis SSPE It can show up years after infection and is almost always fatal Another reminder that measles is not a benign childhood illness and prevention matters

Loneliness isn’t just emotional It’s metabolic New data shows people who feel lonely have about a 32% higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes This is a reminder that health is not just diet and exercise It’s also connection We need to start treating social isolation like a real risk factor
