As highlighted yet again in the @AusHumanRights Respect@Work Report (and a known issue well before, but *slow learners*), NDAs were designed to protect IP. They’ve been abusively co-opted and used in illegal ways, and the sooner that abuse gets addressed, the better #WHS #silence

🧵 When I started calling out Apple in 2021, tons of ex-coworkers contacted me saying some version of: Apple was a huge d*ck, they sued Apple, the litigation was the worst thing in their entire life & they can't even talk about it. What I'm observing first hand, & can tell you...

@TGallopavo @LauraMiers @loscharlos Your ancestors + naïve & memory cells would like a word 🤦‍♀️ being sick has NO BENEFIT. Zero. Yes, we have developed systems to fight back, and sometimes those systems work well, but how stupid does one have to be to go ‘broken bones can heal, let’s go break bones for funsies’?

“I got COVID for a third time in 2025 (I'm vaxed & boosted & took paxlovid)..... Boom #LongCovid. Can't climb due to PEM. I haven't climbed in almost a year.” “No one wants to hear this either but... COVID is still out there. It is not more mild. It is still causing disability.“

@TheJniac @LauraMiers @loscharlos Also the damage is so often ‘hidden’ (microclots, brain lesions, ⬇️grey matter, wiped naive T cells, damaged memory cells, as examples) or generally unobvious until whoomph. Unless you’re really paying attention, mitigating risk actively and diligently, it’s a CO scenario.

@LauraMiers @loscharlos It is pretty standard for humans to assume that similar situations will have similar outcomes. The ability SARS-CoV-2 has to do nothing noticeable over and over only to really mess you up seemingly at random is why so few people take it seriously.

@AndrewMeffan @Loricatty @LauraMiers @loscharlos Exactly. And we learnt a long time ago that all that piffle about children *benefit* from eating dirt (um, ugh / parasitic worm infections, for one?….) and similar folk tales were just that; tales. Not science. The smart ones moved on and have a much more sophisticated view.

@Loricatty @LauraMiers @loscharlos Yeah right. Humans are supposed to get sick just like we're supposed to have numerous injuries. They all make us StRoNGeR. S/- There is NOT an overall benefit in sickness or injury. Immune activation is a small benefit against the greater unpleasantness and damage from disease.

@LauraMiers @loscharlos Optimism bias, for one. It’s the ‘oh, I get that the numbers say it’s really just a matter of time (infections), and I’ve heard it’s pretty bad - BUT. IT. WILL. NEVER. HAPPEN. TO. ME.’ It’s one reason hearing about lived experience is powerful, for a range of things.

@loscharlos I wish someone would study the phenomenon by which people automatically assume they will always be fine if they get more Covid since they got it 1-2x & were fine before. Do people even remember humans are not supposed to be sick at all? Much less routinely? It’s madness.

@Stollenloch @PeteUK7 They also don’t realise the cockpit has different AX regs, bc (increased infection risk aside momentarily), CO2 starts shutting down exec functioning ~1500ppm, and who wants to get on a plane w cognitively impaired pilots? Mind you, #C19 brain damage also in the mix now 🙄

I had to go to the registry office today to get a death certificate for my Mum. I told them we wanted to wear respirators during the meeting as we are avoiding Covid. They were happy to accommodate us. The lady we met wore an FFP3 (that we provided) throughout. It's not hard. 1/

@1goodtern Research shows solidly it’s loyal & pro-org workers who report, bc they want to see learning, +ve change, and believe it’s possible. And when psychological safety is absent and or voice results in null/-ve consequences (v. common), going fully public should be a protected action.

Earlier today I was quietly sitting by a bed in the stroke unit. The patient I was visiting had fallen asleep (I have that effect on people) so I just sat, and watched a nurse going from patient to patient taking bloods and doing procedures without gloves and without washing their hands in between patients.

@drbecs @1goodtern @BirdieBittern My Dad’s consultant met with us on a Thursday & told us that worst case he had a year, best case up to 3 years. He had Multiple Myeloma. He was dead 4 days later from MRSA. 2 weeks later they closed the entire wing due to MRSA.

@goldie_brigitte @DockeryIrwin @chrisms150 @ExpatRepeat Exactly. Prevention over cure, and that’s really only when there IS a cure. Like breaking a leg - we know we can generally repair that, most times good as new style, but otherwise (like w. C19) it’s prevent the snot out of it until you have a cure, Precautionary Principle style.

When I moved to malaria endemic areas, I started sleeping under a mosquito net. Every night. For much longer than 6 years. There is no appropriate time to “let it go” regarding precautions against an endemic disease.

@1903wrightflyer @1goodtern @BirdieBittern And this is why negligence and liability laws exist. There’s absolutely systemic issues at play in health; nurses and doctors are human and genuine mistakes aren’t made in a vacuum, they have drivers. Then there’s the proportion that distill to incompetence or #DarkSide conduct.

@1goodtern @BirdieBittern Many years ago when my Dad had terminal cancer he was constantly having to ask the nurses & doctors to wash their hands. He also had to keep his own log of his fluid intake & output as they kept forgetting to do it. Hospital acquired MRSA is what killed him in the end.

@ltbadpuppy @corneliaxtwo @brownecfm 3Ms advertising is correct; it’s the reader (you in this case) who doesn’t know what they’re talking about. The virus particle plus fluid particle to which it’s attached results in an overall particulate size that 3M Auras 95s for example filter very, very well.

To be fair, I wear KN95 / FFP2 in grocery stores. Here's what I do: I put the respirator on before I go inside the store, I get my groceries, then I take it off when I'm outside the store. Do you know what I don't get? Covid.

@ltbadpuppy @corneliaxtwo @brownecfm Those using the product know how to add 2 + 2. Which is virus particle size plus ‘fluid’ particle size to which it’s attached. I’m not the one spewing falsities; it’s you. Because you want to sound smart but don’t actually have a clue what you’re talking about. So again, shhhh 🤐

@ltbadpuppy @corneliaxtwo @brownecfm Virus particles are attached to other particles - usually H2O - when inhaled and exhaled. And N95 masks well and truly filter out the majority of those (as in 95% min.) Best you shhh up about things you don’t know anything about.

@corneliaxtwo @brownecfm Size of covid virus : 50-140nm N95 mask box : designed to filter 0.3 microns So 1 micron is a 1000 NM. So even if the covid virus was double the size, the n95 mask wouldn't be able to prevent it

@DrHarris88 @wonderartsy Respirators don’t stop gases. They filter particulates. Exhaled CO2 passes through. There’s no clinically relevant ‘build up’ of CO2 in a respirator. And the level of CO2 versus O2 in exhaled air is still more than sufficient to sustain life, which is why EAR works.

@wonderartsy Theres no clean air in that mask Humans primarily breathe out carbon dioxide which is a waste product of cellular respiration. While inhaled air contains about 0.04% carbon dioxide, exhaled air contains roughly 4% to 5% Catbon dioxide

@itsjillgardner @wonderartsy Sorry to break it to you, but quality masks do clean the air you breathe in (they either filter out ‘dirty’ stuff or if P100/CC, literally provide you only medical grade gas combinations), and all you’ve shown is you don’t understand basic physics or infection control.
