I have absolutely no problem with people living absolutely shredded for the Gram.
Don’t care. Do you.
But, don’t try to sell me health.
And don’t you dare try to sell me health without any objective markers of health.
Tired of the constant conflicts, extreme views on hyper-specific topics, and authoritative kick-standing?
That’s what this system of squares cultivates.
It’s a slot machine of always accessible Reality TV content from people we actually know about topics we actually care about.
It’s pretty tough to be dogmatic about nutrition when you have seen people get results with every diet…
And to not see people get results with every diet you have to actively close your eyes or discount entire bodies of research with some really odd mental hula hoops.
Everybody yelling about Beta-Alanine not increasing hypertrophy gainz…
With the buffering mechanism of action I am just happy it didn’t blunt them.
😳😳😳😳
Setting a goal body fat percentage as the destination to a fitness journey really bothers me because
1. An error rate of 2-4% at a minimum
2. Deep down it’s not even what people really care about
3. A low body fat percentage without much muscle isn’t the look most are chasing
Nothing feels as good as living in line with your values.
Goals are fine.
They can change the course of people’s lives.
Chasing outcomes isn’t inherently bad…
But, taking time to establish your values will likely refine those goals and give them more staying power.
I’ve been sober for over 9 years and I still feel like I am one bad decision away from an onslaught of bad decisions…
and the stakes have never been higher.
“Pressure like a drip, drip, drip that'll never stop, whoa
Pressure like a grip, grip, grip, and it won't let go, whoa”
High levels of subjective dietary restraint without objective results is the worst place to be in the diet world.
It’s also an absolutely terrible framing for weight maintenance.
“Rage, rage against the dying of the light.”
Yea. Yea. I get it. Hustle and stuff. Takin stacks 6 feet deep. That scarcity and fear of stillness is where I come from.
My peoples - get your lifts in this weekend and then maybe practice Opposite Action…

Be Present
Turning people into somewhat random food numbers is easy. Period.
Helping turn those numbers back into a real person again with histories, families, routines, and predilections is the wildly difficult part and probably the only part that really matters.
You are not your macros
Authority combined with accuracy sells.
“You absolutely need to consume 2132.3 calories to reach your goal.”
Yet, the odds that we are ever this accurate in the nutrition game is a pipe dream.
A red flag to just walk away.
Social Media is like a Mall where you get to kind of pick some of the main stores, but you still got the middle kiosks coming at you.
None of us drive to the mall 100 times a day on repeat. I’d treat social media the same way.
You can believe that prototypical diet culture and obesity stigma are unhelpful and toxic AF…
while also understanding that normalizing obesity without context is a potential massive sociocultural problem.
Sleep Apnea
Obese
Diabetes
High stress
Out of shape
YOU DONT NEED GENETIC TESTING!
The placebo is likely worse than any kind of phenotypic risk and our genes ability to predict responses to interventions is absolutely not there and probably never will be, especially for one SNP
Before you start tracking another something else make sure that it actually measures what you think it does reliably and accurately…
and then investigate that it truly matters for adaptation or performance.
If not, viciously cut it.
Comparison of bodies isn’t going anywhere.
We can try to wish it away like processed foods or we can learn the skills to accept and love our own bodes, as well as the competencies on how to potentially navigate our current world of grab-your-eyeballs-search-feed bodies.
I grew up with people in my ear, “Boy…don’t talk about it…be about it. “
Do the work.
Make great art.
Then maybe talk about it if it suits you.
It seems that lately we have pivoted to a lot of talking about it and not a lot of being about it.
When we play MacroTetris at the end of the day we are probably doing the exact thing we don’t want to do on a cut - incessantly thinking about food.
Struggling with this approach?
Proactively set up a plan and execute
Also, macros aren’t the only tool to create flexibility
