My name is currently being used for a phishing scam. Please note that it is fake. Students have received messages inviting them to work with me for an internship. These messages are not from me. Do not reply with any personal information.

Such a pleasure to host this important conversation yesterday.

Spoke @AEI yesterday with @DrBethAkers about why accountability in higher education is crucial. Students deserve programs that truly deliver economic value for the investment they and taxpayers make.

Cosmetology schools account for nearly half of the postsecondary institutions with student loan nonpayment rates above 30%. The reason is simple: their graduates earn low salaries. And under a proposed Trump admin rule, that will be grounds to cut off federal loans.

Student loan default rates are six percentage points higher in programs that fail the "Do No Harm" earnings test. Failing programs will soon lose access to federal student loans. #p-648" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">federalregister.gov/documents/2026…

Feeling very grateful to so many people. But the main thing I hope is that it shows young people that you can be successful without being mean and vitriolic, you can explain rather than attack, you can respect your reader instead of dumbing it down. 🙏

The next phase of federal higher education accountability should build on the foundation the OBBBA established by introducing a more nuanced measure of value that incorporates price and, therefore, serves as a proxy for return on investment. — @DrBethAkers aei.org/research-produ…

An Indiana college student joined a Zoom call to plan a commemoration of Tiananmen Square. A few days later, the authorities knocked on his parents’ door ... in China. Our new video looks at the quiet influence of authoritarian countries on American college campuses.

Some interesting evidence regarding the introduction of three year degrees. When Columbia did something similar, graduation and persistence rates didn't change....but earnings dropped a lot. Human capital formation still matters.

@mikekofoed I’d love to see a three-year program at the 120th street Columbia. But that probably wouldn’t give us generalizable evidence either.

@DrBethAkers Cólumbia...sorry. More Encanto and less 120th street. What we do need is neat data here in the USA to your points.

Out this morning! My analysis of the proposed rule to overhaul accreditation. Lots to like: an easier path for new accreditors, higher student outcomes standards, and new rules to discourage credential inflation. Full analysis: prestoncooper93.substack.com/p/for-college-…
