Why does Alberta have only 6 senators with over 5 million people, Nova Scotia have 10 senators with ~1.1 million people, Newfoundland and Labrador have 5 senators with ~550,000 people, New Brunswick have 9 senators with ~870,000 people, Manitoba have 5 senators with 1.5 million people, Ontario have 23 senators with ~16.2 million people, PEI have 4 senators with ~182,000 people, Quebec have 20 senators with ~9.1 million people, Saskatchewan have 6 senators with ~1.27 million people, BC have 6 senators with ~4.82 million people? How is this fair and equitable??? Unreal. This system is outrageous and no I don’t live out west, I live in Ontario and I knew that the seats in the house were not fair and I didn’t look that up but I had the senators list when I called all of them to ask them to vote against bill C-9 and I just can’t believe how unfair this is. We should all have equal seats and senators as per population! Is there something I don’t understand here.

They would have no legitimacy even if they won a referendum. You can’t just vote to help yourself to something that isn’t yours — namely, the territory of Canada, all of which belongs to everyone equally. It’s a free country. You always have the right to leave. You just don’t have a right to take a piece of it with you. And yes, that applies equally to Quebec.
Jen Gerson@jengerson

This point really cannot be made enough. The people speaking to US reps on behalf of "All Albertans" have no democratic legitimacy. 0. They've not been appointed by any democratically elected leader. Their referendum hasn't yet met the minimum bar to move forward. No separatist party has so much as won a by-election in this province.

Donald Trump is telling Canada that we are not free to pursue trading relationships with foreign countries. Successive Canadian governments did NOTHING to stop total Canadian dependence on the United States. Turner was right. Nobody listened.

Details have started to emerge about the US "purchase" of Greenland. It wasn’t exactly a purchase, but it was an EXCELLENT deal that includes: 1) Denmark must continue paying the Greenland population 600 million dollars per year. 2) The US gains sovereignty over any parts it wants for American military bases. 3) The US will have access to the entire Arctic Circle. 4) The US obtains the mineral exploration rights. 5) China and Russia are not permitted to enter Greenland. 6) The US will continue to be part of NATO in exchange for all of this. - @RockyAtotheK · 3h

Former PM John Turner on the United States: "I'm not anti-American, I'm pro-Canadian. I think, like a lot of people, we all had a chance to move down there one time, and I decided I liked Canada...Canada may be open for business again, but Canada is not up for sale."

John Turner correctly warned Canadians about the consequences of free trade with the U.S. His concerns were rejected by Canadian voters at the time, and his political career never recovered. Turner might be the most vindicated Canadian PM of all time.

“Canola” means Canadian oil. Scientists in SK and MB bred out undesirable characteristics of rapeseed in the 1960s and 70s to produce a food grade oil. This cash crop now contributes $44B to the Canadian economy. Canola has diversified Canada's agricultural base, reduced dependence on oil imports, boosted rural economies through value-added industries like crushing and refining, and driven innovations in biotechnology and sustainable farming.

@realDonaldTrump news conference on USA attack on Venezuela should concern @Canada. He states US will run the country until they decide when to leave it. (They seized control of a sovereign country) He also claimed absolute US dominance on Western Hemisphere (including Canada).

35÷16 = 2.2% per year. Not really a winfall. MPP positions need to be open to all, not just to the already financially secure. Now bring back the pension plan, so younger and working class citizens will consider running for office.
