I still practice as an interventional cardiologist at Manipal Hospital in Bangalore. Every week, I'm in the cath lab. People ask why I don't just run the company. The answer is simple: the day I stop seeing patients is the day I stop understanding what we're building.

In 2009, I was having dinner with my family when my phone rang. A man had arrived at the emergency room with a massive heart attack. I rushed to the hospital. My team was already working on him. His wife stood in the hallway, holding their young daughter's hand. The girl's eyes locked on mine.
