Working with staff in hsc is a privilege .. it’s an area that flew relatively under the radar until Covid hit and now that has passed it has faded a little from public consciousness .. the need is still there .. come and join us!

@DrDJWilde @Lilly_Sabir @DrJessTaylor Maybe just some work/learning and healing needed before that could be attained 💚
English

@drecarroll @Lilly_Sabir @DrJessTaylor Good points, Emma. I'm not saying this shouldn't occur; it was just a thought I had, that to be inclusive, we shouldn't have separation. But, I can that sometimes this may be needed, so people feel safe in such spaces. Tricky.

‘Why do we need a whole Black History Month, why can’t we have White History Month?’
Okay. Hear me out on this one. I agree. Let’s give them White History Month.
And every day for a whole month, we have to talk about white people history such as:
White supremacy
Stealing the inventions of Black people and claiming them for ourselves
Colonialism
The invasion and devastation of countries by white people
White saviourism
The missionaries destroying indigenous cultures and belief systems
Slavery and Trafficking
Stealing the resources and riches of other countries
Stealing artefacts and putting them in our own museums
Cultural appropriation
The trail of destruction behind the ‘British Empire’
The development of institutional racism
Experimenting on Black pregnant women with no pain relief
Locking up and torturing Black men
Performing frontal lobotomies on Black kids from 4 years old to ‘stop them becoming violent criminals’
The Royal Family stealing Black children and using them as personal slaves
Segregation
Keeping Black families in poverty
Taking Black family names and changing them to White British names
Stealing indigenous children from their families and bringing them up with no idea of their families or heritage
Whaddya reckon?
White History Month?

@DrDJWilde @DrJessTaylor I can complete understand why groups that have been neglected or marginalised feel in greater need to have parts of their culture and identity recognised in a celebratory way 🎉
English

@DrJessTaylor Neither are needed. All these days, months, parades, etc., create segregation.
English

@DrDJWilde @Lilly_Sabir @DrJessTaylor Re black music awards or any minority specific awards … poss linked to repeated experience of exclusion from ‘mainstream’ events? That might lead to a need for having ‘own’ events .. not feeling fully safe to trust mainstream or poss not wanting to?
English

@Lilly_Sabir @DrJessTaylor But, if the aim is to mix in and be accepted as a person within society, why have rainbow painted stairs? It creates massive emphasis. Why have 'gay bars'? Just have bars; anyone can go in. Why have black music awards? Have music awards; the best artists win.
English

@DrDJWilde @Lilly_Sabir @DrJessTaylor Possibly stems from histories with complete absence of safety, inclusion or acceptance - needing to have places of safety where people could come together.. more able over time to be visible .. with that visibility also signalling inclusion & safety to others? Sadly still needed

@katrionaos I brought a sandwich back when I found a napkin inside it (after being encouraged by my friend) .. the response? ‘We don’t use napkins’ 😂
English

@Keirwales heartbroken to read this .. makes me think again of how hard it is for us as people once something becomes an option not to move to considering it as an option for us .. there is huge risk in this for people already vulnerable to thinking about suicide.. not sure how we protect
English

I've got hugely mixed feelings about this. I hate the idea that because someone has a mental health diagnosis they can never make a decision like this, but to feel every option has been exhausted by 28? And have staff agree with you?
Heartbreakingly sad.
