In medical school I got told by a consultant to speak less 'Blackpool evening gazette and more BMJ' (British medical journal). Last month I got asked to be part of this BMJ podcast with @MartinRCGP . I really really hope the consultant sees this!! my bit is from 22.10.

Been thinking a lot lately about the worst interview of my career because it was with Peter Mandelson. In 2009 I was doing Radio Scotland's Breakfast show on Fridays while also co-presenting Drive on 5 Live. Mandelson was Business Sec and was in Scotland for some announcement..

There are many “drs” who aren’t practicing drs or even medical drs in the press and on TV doing all the healthy living programmes this January. Whilst I absolutely don’t feel that it had to be a practicing medical dr doing these things, it feels uncomfy that there aren’t any actual one’s doing it? No time? Too tricky with GMC stuff? Not the right publicists?

Looking forward to my @Channel4 show airing this Thursday evening at 8pm. I cover type 2 diabetes, depression and chronic pain and show how they can be healed and reversed using lifestyle changes. We will not medicate our way out and of the current healthcare crisis. There is another way!

I think I think this matters because unless you work in the system as it currently is, you may offer advice that just isn’t realistic and set people up to fail?

Another great night at family cook. Donna from ELCAS joined Dr Emma and her team and we enjoyed cooking, chatting and thinking about how we could expand our project. Amazed at how much our cooking skills are developing. #TogetherWeAreStrong #BeEngaged

I must have spoken to well over 100 headteachers across the country recently and they're all saying the same things: Many, many more pupils with complex SEND needs. More challenging behaviour and at a younger age. Too little specialist provision. Frustrated families. Social Services bar too high. Public services skint and burnt out staff. No real Ofsted reform. Falling birth rates. People are angry. Communities in despair. Funding that’s nowhere near enough. Schools are holding the system together but it’s becoming unsustainable - they can't keep asking more and more of staff, with less and less. Something has to give. Without urgent reform and real investment, I'm worried that this could be the year we've all known was coming and education finally breaks.
