it was the already prevalent & all-encompassing hp fandom plus sherlock & doctor who. i had a friend who called herself a teaboo & i (unfortunately) called myself a ouiaboo. i don’t want to talk about it it was a weird time in my life

i remember when i brought up the 2013 tumblr lingo of “teaboo” (being an american obsessed with british culture) there were brits in the replies & qrts like “what??? what do you mean that’s a real thing?” which is so funny to me bc it was really palpable back then

@owo_hiropon versions of OOK tracks up on YouTube and you can tell they're not using official tracks in any capacity so that's probably the ticket there. I know it's common practice for folks to noodle with the OG in the background, but even that puts you in the firing line lol

@owo_hiropon Yeah; generally so long as you make your own sound recordings, as in produce the instrumental on your own, you're fine unless you do something ridiculous and it causes brand / reputation damage. I'd be keen to see more specifics, just cuz it's my arena, but there are a few...

why are there no good ONE OK ROCK instrumentals...

@owo_hiropon Cuz it's murky territory doing that shit; yeah you own the composition of the song (or Sony or whoever) but the reality is if the sound recording(s) are real and belong to someone else, at least these days, most you get is claimed rather than struck.

@owo_hiropon No shade intended, I'm in the same boat, it's more a curiosity on my end as someone who's been covering JP music online since '09. I've never known any specific instrumental covers, but I have known vocal/group covers that used some non-OG insts that I don't think got nuked?

@owo_hiropon Is this the case tho or is it that people use the OG instrumentals or AI rips of the instrumentals and get bagged for it? Most of the time I only ever see claims on JP songs unless you're straight ripping
