@ahmedhankir Hate without borders!!!! Mourning our wounded world! Prayers
English

I am horrified by the antisemitic terror attack that took place in Sydney, Australia. I unequivocally condemn these heinous atrocities. My thoughts are with the loved ones of those who were so callously killed. To our Jewish brothers and sisters: we mourn with you and stand with you against hatred, violence, and antisemitism in all its forms.

Lecturing Medical Students in Indonesia About the Importance of Mental Health
It was a profound privilege and pleasure to teach medical students in Batu, East Java, Indonesia, about the importance of mental health. Many of these students receive very little formal teaching on topics such as attachment styles, adverse childhood experiences, and personality structure — yet their curiosity, attentiveness, and hunger to learn were remarkable.
What moved me most was their respect. Here in Indonesia, when students greet an invited lecturer or professor, they gently take your hand with both of theirs, lower themselves slightly, and place your hand softly on their forehead as a gesture of honour. It is one of the most beautiful and humbling expressions of respect I have ever experienced.
This has been an unforgettable and truly life-changing experience.

Hello Crystal Palace, London, UK. The Wounded Healer is back in town!
We each need a safe space, a sanctuary that we call home.
Crystal Palace is my home, it always will be. It’s where my heart and soul belong.
The parks, the lake, the cafe culture. It’s such a gem, a treasure. I’m so blessed to be here.
It’s SO good to be back. This mural behind me on a wall in Crystal Palace is one of my favourite ever.

@ahmedhankir The Wounded Healer, a presentation, a chronicle of lived experience and an embrace of sacrifice empathically woven by Professor Ahmed Hankir. I’m so glad that we have you sharing on this side of the pond, dear brother.

@ahmedhankir I was on a plane the other day and a couple of people asked me if I knew the wounded healer! Well, almost as I had your book in my hand and they had heard of it and I was happy.

Today was special. During the @WHO #QualityRights training me & the team are providing to partners in Kyiv, Ukraine I read passages from my book Breakthrough about coping with trauma during conflict & war. The connection with the audience was so powerful. It was beautiful.

Happy birthday to me. So it’s my birthday today. To be honest I don’t usually celebrate my birthday but this year I thought I should (hence the solo adventure to Chicago). Life wasn’t always like this. There were times when reality was so cruel and unbearable that I thought about ending it all. I look back at my perilous journey & I think it’s a miracle that I somehow survived. It has felt like a constant fight but I’m immensely grateful that I have come this far & that I am where I am today. I’m also grateful to be who I am (although I’m still very much a work in progress). For those of you who are struggling - especially men - and who are contemplating suicide, I know that the world can be a dark & lonely place, believe me I do. But please, choose life. Don’t suffer in silence. Seek help. Don’t make a decision based on a temporary situation or feeling that has permanent consequences. I know it’s hell of a lot easier said than done but things do get better. So keep on fighting that good fight. You’ve got this. Sincerely, Ahmed

@ahmedhankir @TorontoPearson Pray for the security guard Brother!!!
English

I’m in the chapel - a place of worship - in @TorontoPearson Airport. A security guard enters the room & he looks disgusted by me. He says he’s a Christian & ‘tells’ me to leave. I refuse. I tell him all I was doing was worshipping. I tell him I feel threatened & discriminated by him. I also tell him I will not allow this to pass, that he should be ashamed of himself & that I will lodge a complaint against him. ZERO tolerance for hatred of any kind.

@ahmedhankir Enjoy London Town and the book signing. The delivery in USA has been pushed back a couple of weeks but everyone here is anxiously waiting for it and your return to your Florida Home

Hello everyone. I hope you are all well. On a more positive note, I’m excited to share that I’m back home in London, UK to promote my book, ‘Breakthrough. A Story of Hope, Resilience and Mental Health Recovery’ which will be released this week on the 18th of April. In Breakthrough, I approach mental health from the dual perspectives of consultant psychiatrist & psychiatric patient, of healer & healed. I signpost my recovery journey from impoverished, shunned & stigmatised ‘service user with mental illness from a minority ethnic background’ to becoming an empowered mental health advocate & World Health Organisation award winning doctor. I discuss the many challenges I faced, the factors that are harmful & helpful for our mental health & the lessons that I learned. I also write about the obstacles that persons from disadvantaged backgrounds must overcome including poverty, discrimination & accommodation insecurity. Breakthrough is available for pre-order: amzn.eu/d/6lRrHia
