There are three of us in my family who became doctors—myself and two of my brothers. Between us, we’ve got six children. Not a single one of them wants to go anywhere near medicine. Not one.   And you know what? I don’t blame them.

Here I am in March 2020, wearing the flimsy PPE frontline staff were given, bracing for an influx of desperately sick people with SARS-CoV-2 — what we now call COVID-19. I watched patients die. Our colleagues die. Michelle Mone should be in jail. And she should only be the first name on a very long list.

@DrLKVaughan I think what non medics fail to understand is that history taking is THE skill. It s not simply asking questions but it’s interrogating hypotheses based on background knowledge of possibilities

Note: In today's NHS the outcome of this case at a morbidity (nearly mortality) MDT would be "followed protocol", all good. That is how messed up everything is.

Words are easy, @wesstreeting - we need action. This government hiding the doctors’ pay review body recommendation for weeks does not inspire confidence. You say you understand why doctors feel anxious about their future. Let’s be clear: doctors anxiety stems from being undervalued and underpaid. We have fully qualified doctors with £100k student loans earning just £17/hour in the NHS. They’re asking for £22/hour; not a luxury, just fair pay. Sympathy is meaningless without action. You say you have an offer to make to doctors, where is it?

This is what fair and modern NHS pay should look like for doctors in 2025. Scrap nodal point 1. Move each grade up one point. Pay progression every 2 years to reflect skill and service provided to the NHS. Doctors will still start on less than a PA and tACP @BMA_James_Steen

Doctors are not worth less than they were in 2008. Your work is not 22% easier Your patients are not 22% simpler Your pay should not be 22% lower. It is only right that doctors pay is fully restored.

Whilst the deployment of under trained associate roles replacing highly trained and qualified professionals is a concern to me wherever it occurs; The fact it’s disproportionately being done to working class communities enrages me. Working class people deserve real doctors too.
