Rachel Reeves: "We promised to cut inflation – and we have” 🤔 Reality... 1⃣ Labour inherited an inflation rate of 2% then saddled businesses with a load of extra costs, lifting the CPI measure to 3.8% last autumn 2⃣ inflation has since fallen back but is still 2.8%, while all Labour has done to help is transfer some household costs to general taxation; this is hardly "fixing the foundation", and inflation is set to jump again over the summer #gaslighting

Good to visit The Hinckley School recently and see progress on the £22.5 million STEAM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths - building 🏫 There’s been a lot of work behind the scenes to get funding agreement over the line, but construction is finally underway!

This photo from Burnham's campaign launch captures how absolutely bizarre the Makerfield by-election is going to be politically. Left holding the banner, Johnny Reynolds, who as chief whip is in charge of making sure Keir Starmer remains prime minister and his agenda is delivered. Centre, Andy Burnham, who is declaring a vote for Labour is a vote to change Labour... by which he is universally read to mean ditching Keir Starmer. Even the Prime Minister himself is promising to campaign for a candidate who is coming to Westminster to replace him. Has there ever been a by-election like this??

Yet, first in the Budget and again in the King's Speech, Labour pushed the Overnight Visitor Levy Bill. A tourism tax, on top of Labour's toxic concoction of taxes and red tape, puts even more pressure on our hospitality sector which is already struggling under this Govt. 2/2

Yesterday the Prime Minister confirmed that he's delaying the planned fuel duty hike, saying, "We are backing drivers by extending the freeze in fuel duty for the rest of the year." @Conservatives and I have been calling for this since the start of the Iran conflict. 1/2

The PM loves process. He boasts about NHS waiting lists falling. But why? More than 350,000 people have been removed from waiting lists *without treatment* - a huge spike Perhaps he should explain how he’s hitting his targets and what happens to the patients now off the list?

On Monday I spoke about my concern, as Shadow Minister for Social Care, around the timetable for social care reform. The Government has made much of the independent review of adult social care, but the final phase is not due to report back until 2028/29. 1/2
