“do you want the bad news - or the really bad news?” I actually found this statement quite refreshing from my consultant Ophthamologist - no beating around the bush 🤣 “I’ll go with the really bad news please” Retinal detachment - your clinic isn’t happening this week, or for a few weeks - surgery tonight FFS We will come to the bad news when this is sorted - apparently Central Serous Retinopathy 🤣🤣 Never had a course of corticosteroids in my life

@DrJN_SportsMed I think if not done MRI calves to look for patterns of oedema and atrophy. Not sure how it works in your side of the world but may be better to refer to Geneticist for metabolic myopathy gene panel than to see a Neurologist.

Consent✅ 1 year progressive severe (painless) L calf atrophy & weakness Medial bulk affected > lateral - see pic Affecting football performance Rolling over in bed onto R side - sudden 'spasms' in leg leg US - diffuse fatty atrophy of medial gastroc & soleus (vs R) EMG / NCS - severe L5 & S1 subacute chronic radiculopathy MRI - no herniated disc - but 5cm filum terminale lipoma (high signal on T1 seq, low on STIR). Also very low lying conus medullaris & tethered cord suggestive of spinal dysraphism (spina bifida occulta) Neurosurgical referral
