@EddieComeaux @UCLALawReview @DrUJayakumar The concept of race-neutrality is one I'm not found of because it minimizes the opportunities for people of color but extends the door out to white privileged students. There can be no neutrality because not everyone has the same socioeconomic background.

The concept of racial neutrality does more harm than good by failing to ensure minority representation, and instead, permitting white students with economic and social privileges to thrive in intercollegiate athletics. #UCR50 @TA_ED50

@Bowen173281 @TA_ED50 I agree with your statement Bowen. Admissions should not favor white, wealthy students more than others because it further implements the inequality to POC students. Neutrality is not the solution because it ignores the real issue(s) at hand. #UCR50 @TA_ED50

Admissions at many elite colleges are unfair. They tend to favor wealthy, white applicants. So-called "race-neutral "policies don't actually solve the problem of racial inequality. Students of color are not given a fair chance to compete.#UCR50 @TA_ED50

@sduro003 @TA_ED50 I love the King of the Hill GIF! I think Bobby perfectly captures how a student athlete feels after being overworked and unpaid for their labor and contribution to their sport. Something they once loved has now become unenjoyable for them. #UCR50 @TA_ED50

After listening to this week's lecture, I did a bit of research on Ametuerism. Amateurism is the belief that people should take part in sports and other activities as a hobby, for pleasure, rather than as a job, for money. @TA_ED50 #UCR50

The recent changes made to Title IX in 2022 has broadened their definitions such as discrimination of sex expanding to sexual orientation and gender identity, including athletes of the LGBTQ+ community. #UCR50 @TA_ED50 jdsupra.com/legalnews/key-…

@HannahDuenas50 @TA_ED50 You bring up a really good point Hannah! I feel like if there was more integration of female coaches in intercollegiate athletics, it'll improve the college climate by providing athletes a different mentoring experience. #UCR50 @TA_ED50

Why are there so few women coaches in the field of intercollegiate athletics? What does it say about sports-related gender bias that women are less often able to serve as mentors for young student-athletes? @TA_ED50 #UCR50

@sCristo010 @TA_ED50 The picture you provided makes me wonder about how much more the POC student-athlete experience could benefit from having a higher availability of POC coaches/managers because they will have a athletically educative figure to relate to more. #UCR50 @TA_ED50

@TA_ED50 #UCR50 It's odd that in athletics, colleges don't seem to be more diverse with student athletes or the coaches they select to lead the teams. This goes to show students the lack of importance diversity seems to have as well as impacting their college experiences.

@Bowen173281 @TA_ED50 Well said Bowen! This is such a harmful stereotype that gives student-athletes the impression that their campus community is not a safe space. Because of this, they are less likely to participate in educationally purposeful activities. #UCR50 @TA_ED50

College athletes are susceptible to stereotypes in the academic world. Due to the amount of time they need to spend on sports, many professors and students do not believe that they are capable of academic achievement. @TA_ED50 #UCR50

@Serena294491052 @TA_ED50 Isolation is a big issue for student-athletes who feel out of place in both of their academic and athletic communities. College campuses and faculty alike should provide a welcoming environment/resources suited in helping them assimilate. #UCR50 @TA_ED50

Student athletes find it stressful to balance athletics and academics, and over involvement in such sports put athletes into isolation from the rest of the student body. #UCR50 @TA_ED50

@Liacast99 @TA_ED50 I definitely see your point. If entertainment is prioritized more than academics, then that will reflect on the education athletes receive, especially considering that only 44% of them actually graduate from college/university. @TA_ED50 #UCR50

The gap in pay between college coaches and professors is a topic of concern in higher education. It really makes you wonder what’s the higher educations priority; academics or entertainment?#UCR50 @TA_ED50

@judithrazo050 @KatryaLy I love the political cartoon you included with this post! I think it very accurately describes the NCAA. Overall, I am all for athletes who take a stand and address issues in their community. #UCR50 @TA_ED50

As organizations like the NCAA continue to gain an increase of revenue with a president that makes about $3 million a year, student athletes continue to be denied the fruits of their labor. Is the lack of adequate pay for their hard work something that will eventually lead to a

In 2021, players from the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament reported a huge gap between men's faculties and their own. Despite the NCAA bringing more exposure to women's athletics, was it worth getting rid of the AIAW? #UCR50 @TA_ED50 si.com/college/2022/0…
