@wesstreeting @DrHWazir @TalkTV Born in the UK. Still not “British enough” for some. Imagine what foreign doctors go through. And yet the NHS depends on them to keep it standing.

This is completely and utterly shameful. I’m sorry this happened to you and @DrHWazir, Aadam. This flag 🇬🇧 belongs as much to you as me. @TalkTV owe you an apology. By the way, we do have doctors to come to the UK to work in the NHS - and we’re lucky to have them.
Dr Aadam Aziz@Aadam_Aziz

Absolutely disgraceful racism from @jkyleofficial on @TalkTV. As the camera zooms in on me and @DrHWazir on the picket line, he sneers that “a lot of them have come into this country to be doctors.” He based this solely on the colour of my skin. I was born in the UK. I studied and trained in the UK and I currently work as a doctor in the NHS. My grandfather fought for this country in WW2. This is racist, demeaning, and utterly unacceptable.

@DHSCgovuk Framing this as a simple rejection misses the wider context. If the offer was sufficient, we wouldn’t be here.

@TheBMA Difficult to see how this represents anything other than inadequate preparation. Patient safety should not depend on last-minute derogations during planned industrial action.

As in December, the BMA has again agreed a derogation for some obstetrics shifts in Nottingham due to unique and difficult circumstances. We attach the letter to Nottingham obstetrics residents below for more information. Thank you to colleagues who were otherwise preparing to strike for pay and jobs. [This derogation is specifically for the resident obstetric doctors described in the letter.]

@DrSteveTaylor @DrShanHussain The language towards GPs and doctors is disgraceful - ‘moaning minnies’, ‘juvenile delinquents’, ‘laggards’. This is coming from the very people meant to support the workforce that keeps the country alive. It’s demeaning, divisive, and beneath anyone in public office.

@Dave__Chambers @timricketts_ @TheBMA Also, once he resorted to name-calling, the debate was already lost. He claimed I can’t read, twisted my point into a ‘free-for-all NHS’, pushed a blame-the-immigrant line, and even made a minority jibe. That’s not discussion, that’s toxicity.

@Dave__Chambers @timricketts_ @TheBMA I don’t actually disagree with Tim’s basic point, but the way he frames it comes across as toxic — it shifts blame onto IMGs rather than on poor workforce planning.

@timricketts_ @JasmineI12 I earned my place here through my own capability and commitment to patient care, and I trust the process that put me here. International colleagues bring the same dedication. Suggesting they deserve less isn’t fair — and it risks undermining the values the NHS should stand for.

@drsckwan @JasmineI12 Fair? It isn’t fair on UK F2s to be fighting for posts against the entire world If you’re against discrimination, why aren’t you fighting for all nations to have free treatment on the NHS?

@timricketts_ @JasmineI12 I’ve been a “minority” from the start, and I won’t be silenced now. Calling out discrimination isn’t ‘ridiculous’ — it’s necessary. Prioritising fairness, solidarity, and respect in the NHS is the logical thing to do. If that makes me the minority, so be it. 😇

@drsckwan @JasmineI12 You’re being ridiculous. It is the logical thing to do to prioritise UK trained doctors/doctors who currently work in the NHS for posts. This is the prevailing view of U.K. doctors and the public You’re in the minority here I’m afraid

@timricketts_ @JasmineI12 Both things can be true — but only one of them sounds like you’ve got a chip on your shoulder about IMGs.

@timricketts_ @JasmineI12 Funny you think UK graduate unemployment has anything to do with IMGs, while the NHS is busy recruiting non-doctors to fill gaps. That’s the real joke.

@timricketts_ @JasmineI12 I’m Malaysian and a Warwick graduate — not an IMG myself, but I’ve worked alongside them my whole career. The NHS wouldn’t survive without IMGs, and they deserve respect, not discrimination. And yes, I do understand English — maybe better than the arguments you’re making.

@timricketts_ @JasmineI12 So your fix for workforce planning is to sideline IMGs already here working in the NHS. Thanks for exposing your racism — it’s clear where you stand.

@drsckwan @JasmineI12 As I’ve said numerous times on here, I support the BMA policy of grandfathering existing IMGs despite the fact that it will kneecap solving the issue of U.K graduate unemployment. It’s mental that a U.K F2 has the same priority of a doctor living in Canada/Brazil/India etc

@timricketts_ @JasmineI12 Nice try, but this isn’t about borders — it’s about doctors working in the NHS being treated fairly. Big difference.

@timricketts_ @JasmineI12 I’m not even an IMG — but if you think it’s fine to treat them as less, you’re part of the problem. That attitude has no place in the NHS, and it will get called out.

@JasmineI12 @timricketts_ Discrimination much? Honestly, it’s worrying to think there are colleagues who believe IMGs should somehow deserve less. That attitude doesn’t belong in the NHS.

@JasmineI12 @timricketts_ Oh right, so the answer is to keep IMGs working in the NHS but block their training? Is training not working then? Fucking hell. 😂
